Hi, came off the bike again this week and broke my right leg this time. Left leg in 2010!
Can anyone tell me if crass bars would protect my legs or do they just protect the bike? My problem is that my foot ALWAYS twists around to the rear and breaks the ankle / leg (spiral fracture of the fibula this time, with pinning operation next week). I need to do something as these are ALL low speed falls on the track to the house. Is steep with hairpin bends and that very fine Spanish dust (slippery). Thanks for any help

Ummm what boots are you wearing?!

If youre not wearing proper off road boots with better ankle protection id be looking more at that first.

Ouch!!!!

I'm so sorry to hear about your off(s) and the subsequent ops - for low speed spills you are not having much luck!

I have the Wunderlich Adventure bars (branded Wunderlich but arrived with Hepco and Becker box...)

I chose them for a few reasons. First and foremost - i think they look cool :augie

Then it was the clearance they give your legs. I'm no Bailey but i hope these go some way to explaining what i mean -

There are four points of contact around the lower leg - the bars have a high and low extremity in front and the footpegs provide them at the rear. Space in between all of them is enough to hold the bikes weight away from the leg should it go over. The only time the bike has gone over was on the drive - moving by hand in deep gravel :blast

In addition the long low part that goes under the footpeg protects the brake and gear pedals/levers. Also the lower front reinforcement acts as something of highway peg should you so wish (i think highway pegs look soooo wrong on GS's)

I got mine for £195 from Nippys. Easy install too.

Wishing you a speedy recovery,

S

Some thoughts.

Tires, are they adequate ?
I think that panniers would protect you better than crash bars for a low speed off especially on sand.

Heal well

Hi Guys
Lots of food for thought in all these suggestions.
Thanks very much for all the ideas.
The tyres are both Metzlar Tourance EXP with only 2-3K Kms on.
The track I live on is only 1 km long, but treacherously steep, twisty and loose surfaced shale and with that fine powdery dust we get here (Costa del Sol) over rock.
Just checked the crash bars and they are not for the lowered version (as per mine).
I can try the boots idea as I already have them (once I can wear them again).
