The slide down the road this morning has promted me to order the crash bars I've been meaning to get for ages
I'm well aware of the problems the BM bars can cause on an ADV by flipping the bike onto the tank but
Will fitting H&B bars to an 1100 have the same effect?
I intend to source some head protectors too as the rocker covers took the hit but bar a bit of a scuff to the aforementioned, nothing else has been damaged (pride end ego excepted :D )

So irrespective of finish are SW motech bars more robust/offer better protection in the event of an off?
When i do get the bars on I'll be getting quite a bit more adventurous off-road so they will be used in anger :P
Viewed from the side they don't look like they'd have saved the rocker cover that went down this morning

It's a bit difficult ...

... to say if they are more robust etc; but having dropped mine on both sides they did what they are supposed to do and saved the heads from damage. :thumb2

The finish on my SW Motech bars is awesome! The leaflet that came with them quoted something like 4 coats of paint and 2 coats of clear. The disadvantage is that they have to be removed before you can change the oil as they're bolted to the bash plate mountings. Probably not a bad thing as you can give them and their mounting bolts a good clean.

The H&B bars, I think, can stay in place for the service. So, if you could combine the finish of the SW bars with the design of the H&B bars you'd have the perfect crash bars.

Er ...

The disadvantage is that they have to be removed before you can change the oil as they're bolted to the bash plate mountings.

... mine (Pictured above) aren't. I think the ones for the 1200 are but the original request talked about bars for an 1100 :thumb2

Crash bars

I'ts the same for tt bars they have to come off for oil change, I have got the
dreaded adventure bars on my 1150 and these have to be unbolted at the sump plate to get it off. Then just remove one screw for the middle of the r/h bar and it pulls over enough to remove oil filter. Much easier than the tt bars for servcing. tt bars had a few bangs, held up ok but these act as a pivot and the bike swings down and indicator goes first followed by any after market screen fitted. have now gone for small flush indicators that can be seen, standard screen with tt extention piece, so far so good nothing breaks apart from a few torn muscles attempting to pick it up again!.
(dear Mr Atlas, I've taken the course please forward the muscles).
