I'm looking at fitting crashbars to my HP2.
Not sure which one would be the best.
The ones Ive looked at are:-
* Touratech
* Wunderlich
* Hepco and Becker

Has anyone got any recommendations or comments?

Karl, I'm not convinced you'll need them. The bike is easier to save than the larger GS and the standard plastic protection covers have survived numerous crashes off-road as well as a very nasty speed bump in my local Asda:rolleyes:

Crash Bars and Psychological help

I've had the Touratech bar on order since I bought the bike. They told me they could not supply until mid Summer. I've decided to cancel as I'd like to add a full Akrapovic exhast and the bar will not fit. The kick stand and Aux stand will no longer work as well... I need my head examined.. :confused:

Is there a similar wait for these bars in Europe?

KDT,

First of all, glad to hear you are going to make the Big Trailie ride next week. I'll see you in Princeton.

I feel your pain with the Touratech bars. I too have had them on order since the day I bought my HP2 back in March. No word at all as to when they will start shipping these but I also heard it would be mid/late summer.

I also wanted the full Akra system and if not available, the full Ti Remus. The only reason I didn't buy it yet was the fit issue. Both systems will not allow the use of the BMW service stand. The Remus has no problem with the side stand.
I have not heard about the sidestand issue with the Akra. Are you sure about interference with the side stand? I sure as hell am not going to prop my bike against a pole every time I park it. If this rumour is true then it's the Remus for me.
I also did not know that the Akra interfered with the TT bars. I have no idea about the Remus in this regard.

Damn. Maybe I'll just cancel my TT order and wait for the dust to settle. I would like a new exhaust *and* a set of bars. They need to work together.

One thing I thought up yesterday. I borrowed the HP2 stand from the shop to swap wheels and when the stand was mounted on the bike I saw why the full Ti Remus wouldn't fit. The stand already touched the right header pipe on the left side. If the Remus is but a fraction larger it will stop the stand from working. I may just cut the stock header pipes at the weld, just before they curve to the center. Then I will just fabricate a "Y"- pipe to replace the cat section and just buy the Remus end can. It would still give a good boost as ridding the bike of that heavy congested Cat will help the flow and the Remus end can should help a bit more. Maybe not as good a a full system but pretty damn close, for less money, and the service stand and the TT bars would still fit the bike.

I will look into it as soon as I get back from Summerland in July. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Hi Bario:

On further checking you may be right with the kick stand being ok with the Akra system. I'm not too sure of my source with the Crashbars either (same guy) :rolleyes: . If anyone out there with first hand experience with this could fill us in for sure...?

I'm not too keen on spending 500 Cdn on the Aux stand. The hydraulic motocycle jack I got from Cnd Tire worked great for switching my wheels from super moto back to dirt. I saw a similar jack at Pricess Auto today for $89.00! The joys of $2.00 per day wages..

See you in Princeton :clap

Aux Stand - Remus Header

Hi Guys,

I have the full Remus system and use the BMW Auxiliary Stand ( service stand as you called it ) and I found the problem stated - it fouled the header on the right side and prevented the locking pin engaging to secure the stand to the bike.

A few clouts with a soft mallet on the header worked a treat and all fits perfectly without any damage showing on the header!

Go on, give it a bash!

Cheers, Rick.
