Does anyone have a spare Craven type W rack. See image below. If it was with brackets for an R60/2 that would be even better

Failing that would some kind trusting soul be prepared to lend me one so that I can use it as a pattern? You can trust me, I'm not a used car salesman. Well not any more anyway. If it was less than perfect I'd make sure that it came back in better condition.

My Dolomite panniers are crying out be fitted correctly and the type W is the device for the job.

I'll see if I can get hold of one of my mates in the Vincent club.
He's got all the drawings for all the Craven stuff, raks panniers etc. He used to make the stuff when Dick Craven sold up, but he had the brains to keep all the original documentation when he retired, and sold up to Draganfly motorcyles who have done nothing with it.

The above images of Craven racks don't show the 'top pegs' which Packer's Panniers have to fit to (from memory) . Are the 'top mounting pegs' added separately ?

I would love to get a set of Cravens for mine, but the turn buckle bottom fastening on my frames are higher up than Packers, was there a smaller Craven pannier? or is the bottom mount on the pannier just fitted to suit the frame?

I can't remember but I'd imagine the top pegs were separate; at a push it wouldn't be hard to fabricate them to fit your rack, there isn't much to them.

I think the Comet was a shallower pannier than the Dolomite the OP mentioned. If I'm not mistaken, this is a set of Comets on a Commando...

Those are comets, you can see the comet squirl on the sides.

Just looked at my rack and it isn't the W it's the lower one in this picture

Yes, the image I posted was cut from a Craven advert/catalogue from the period. I think that it was called the "L Pattern" and was originally for Triumphs although I'm certain I had one of those on a Starfire in the early '70's. Look here http://bmwdean.com/craven_brochure.htm

Bill, I've got two of the peg type fittings on my current mounting brackets. They should attach directly to the lower side rail of the W Pattern rack. It would be easy to use those as patterns to have more made. There was a shorter version of the Dolomite bags that I have, they were called Safari.

Check out the link in my previous post as well. I think that you could simply fit brackets where ever you wanted though and glass up the old holes.

The third bracket to add stability via attachment to the rear mudguard. Someone has added side frames for soft luggage to this example but apart from being kicked up toward the back it looks good.

The panniers are now on the correct sides and so are swept back instead of forwards and I can now use the adjustable suspension:-

Ha, you should see what's left of the side stand (Not much).

When I had the forks out to replace the gaiters I cleaned the stanchions, removing old dried out grease/preservative and giving them a film of clean oil. This has reduced the stiction and they seem to ride an inch higher than previously which means that average cornering angles and speed have increased before things scrape. With the option of using the preload on the back now I'll be able to make slightly better progress

400 miles per annum for almost 42 years and then 1100 miles in two months, soon to be 2200 in three months. I need it to rain for the rest of the summer or I'll wear the thing out.
