Creating a Scenic Roundtour/Route

MyRoute continues to drive me absolutely bonkers... I created a Scenic Route on the web site and it comes up with a decent route BUT it creates it as a Route/Track, the Duration and Distance are listed as 0 and there appears to be no way to edit the route. It also will not sync to my phone. WTF is the point of the route it created if you can't actually use it ? How can you make it JUST a route? How can I edit it? How can I get it to sync to my phone?

Well, let’s see….

I have just created a scenic route, using the ‘scenic route’ tool on the web based MyRoute Routeplanner.

It initially creates a track; that’s just what it does. Why doesn’t it create a route, straight off the bat? I have no idea.

But now click on ‘Edit route track’:




Up pops:



As you can see, it’s going to give you a route version of the track it created.

Give it a name and hit the ‘Use’ button:



Bingo, one suitably named route, created by MyRoute from the track in a couple of seconds. As you can see, the route has an overall time and an overall total distance.

You can now edit it to your heart’s content:

That's all very well Wapping... but the OP wanted a route Barnsley, Bury & Bolton... not Conches-en-Ouche, Caugé & Courdemanche....

Joking aside I was looking at the MRA forum which has a lot of useful tips and tutorials and also a kind gent from North Devon who is also willing and able to answer most of the questions the MRA forum submits. Seems he is an MRA ambassador as well….

Here’s answer to the mystery as to why MyRoute’s first act in generating a ‘Scenic’ route is to create a track:

The reason for this, is that the generated "route" needs to be equal for all available map providers. Only a track does that without manual intervention. Besides that, HERE natively does not offer a roundtrip generator. Therefore the OSM map is used by the roundtrip generator, and the track can be loaded in MRA Navigation (using HERE maps). Not ideal nor perfect but it works ;-).
