My bike appears to have some sort of crude cruise control. GS 1150 2001. But how on earth do you use it? Its at the end of the throttle twist and locks the thing in place if you turn it. But how do you do that when your riding.

A lack of owners manual strikes once again.

Book won't help, not a BMW item, not easy to use at speed.

I thought thats how you do it. Although I can't believe its actually allowed. I have been tempted to try and do that but I really don't want the knowledge after I fall off because I have lost my balance that I shouldn't have really done it.

You know one of those 'Doh' moments.

Reach across with left hand and lock the twist grip in position? Works for me anyway.

I've got the wunderlich "cruise control" and i use the little finger on my right hand to turn the twist lock.

Only really useful when using the auroroutes on the continent for 500 miles at a stretch.

I have the screw under the throttle on my R100RS. It is on all the time and is a great tool. Official BM as well. Just holds the throttle against the return spring. Chaz

I've never tried one of the screw down cruise controls but I've got a throttle rocker which is great for stopping the 'claw hand' I get on long motorway stints.

This was always a feature on Britsh bikes for the days of hand signals, just an adjustable drag feature.

My old guzzi has one of those. And it's just as well because the carb springs could pull a car door shut with a bang.
