I once read a post on here where someone, would you beleive it! Suggested using an 'O' ring, I forget the diameter but could could find out, I think about 32 or 33 mm. Put in over the twist grip loose for normal use and when you want to use it as a cruise control just push it towards the end of the grip and it traps between the grip and the bar end weight. It creates sufficient friction to hold the throttle open where you want it but you can easily turn the twist grip if you want to.
I went to great expense and bought a pack of 3 for a quid off eBay, and yes he was right, it works a treat!

Older ones just turn on the heated grips on 2 soon grips on its own.

They're not "cruise controls" they only secure the throttle in one position. However, they may be what the OP is after.
