Anyone else had the cruise control engage itself uncommanded??

It's always armed, (switch slid to the right) but on three occasions now it has just engaged without me pushing the little "engage" paddle....

I'm now on my second replacement L/H switchgear.

Potentially very embarrassing not to say dangerous

Are you saying that the green cruise light will illuminate uncommanded?

The best way to prove this would be to wear a GoPro on a chest harness to show the lamp and paddle in the same shot.

From a safety point of view BMW will say that is why there is a slide switch to disable cruise control.

Which bike and year? I reckoned it happened a couple of times on my 2013 RT and I reckoned that it was user error with me accidentally triggering the switch. It happened at low speed (less than 30mph). I made sure I disabled the CC when finished with it...

2011 Twin Cam Amber "SET" light comes on at the bottom of the speedo.
First two times it happened shortly after starting off, so I thought I had touched it.
Next time I was just driving along touching nothing..

Mine didn't self-engage, but would not work at all, then started working, then stopped!
2011 model - new switchgear (L&R) under warranty sorted it out only last week.

Looking at the configuration of the switchgear, I cannot understand how it can self-engage unless it's is something to do with the can-bus system?

interesting. I reckon mine was dodgy as well in that case - I thought it was just me, but I was convinced it just switched on all by itself. It just didn't happen enough to prove it. Once gave me quite a fright as it started to accelerate me towards parked cars, just as I was slowing down...

very interesting ..on my 201 RT it disengaged itself twice !!! IE it was on and turned itself off with out me touching any levers or switches…i just put it down to the vibration off the road surface might have knocked it off ……dangerous to be knocked on ,by itself hope you get that sorted

FWIW I was chatting to our local BMW and Ducati dealer and the subject of reliability came up. His comment was that he got far more of the BMWs he sold coming back on recovery vehicles than he eve did with Ducati. "Bevel boxes?" I asked. No he said - "switchgear. ". He went on to say that BMW had bought their switchgear from Motorola who had never made bike switch gear before the BMW contract.

As I say FWIW and we all know that dealers some times talk nonsense

There are a lot more BMW's about than Ducati's so odds are you would expect more back.

He was talking proportions ie a larger % of the BMWs he sold came back. Surprised me since I've always thought Italian bikes electical systems didnt do rain but apparently its all changed.
