Crush Washer

Just dropped the oil out of my GSA and discovered the new crush washer is too big I'm in a bit of a pickle!

Is there any harm in re-using it?

Not really, but it wont be quite as good as a new one. just be sure to nip it up properly.

i just had my Ducati serviced and the crush washer failed, oil leak into the belly pan and on the back tyre, luckily spotted it. I would not have been keen on riding 197 bhp bike with oil on the rear tyre.

Personally i wouldn't re-use one.

You could anneal the original washer.

Aluminium gives no clue at melting point unlike copper which will go cherry red.

Just reuse it. It'll be fine.

Warm tthe washer with over the flame of a gas cooker or blow lamp, do it gently and keep touching the washer with bar of hand soap. When you touch the washer with the soap and it turns brown lay the washer on a plate and let it cool slowly.
Its a reasonable way to gauge the temperature for anealing aluminium, not perfect by any way but good enough for a crush washer.

Aluminium has no need to heat as hot as copper. However the last time I forgot to buy a new washer I cleaned everything and used some gasket sealant either side of the washer. No problems.
