Ctek battery connection

Hi There, I have a 2007 R1200 gs and i have an optimate charger, i recently bought a ctek connector so that i can plug into the accessory socket and charge my bike without having to take the seat off. I cant find my optimate lead that connects to the battery permanently, so my question is can i plug directly into the accessory socket and charge my bike with my optimate without worrying about damaging my bikes canbus electrical system. PS I did try the search function but couldnt find an answer to this, Thanks john

You can't plug the optimate through the accessory socket as the can bus system closes the circuit about 45 secs after you turn off the ignition.

The only way to use an optimate or similar non BMW charger is with a direct connection to the battery or else to make a connection from the accessory socket direct to the battery so it's always live.

If you want to use the accessory socket as it is you need the BMW charger which sends a signal to the on board controller to open the circuit with the ignition off.

Thanks Roger that makes sense, just to clarify, if i hook direct to the battery direct with an optimate lead will this will charge the battery without worrying about damaging the canbus system, ie after turning ignition off hook up to optimate and charging the battery while it is still connected to the bike, Thanks john

That will work perfectly, had an optimate lead connected direct to the battery on the last bike with no issues.

Got the lead tucked just behind the injector on the left side, you wouldn't know it's there.
