I'm having trouble altering the settings on my alarm.
My alarm handbook says it's a DWA 6.

I understand I can alter the activation from manual to automatic & have a choice of 2 tones, 'Swelling & Intermittent'.

At the moment it's on manual activation, which I prefer but I may want to change to automatic when I go overseas, I'd like to compare the 2 alarm tones as well.

My problem is I can't seem to access the 'Progamming Mode'!

My book quotes...

Step 1. Deactivate alarm function.
Step 2. Ignition ON.
Step 3. Press button 1 three times. This will produce 1 x acoustic acknowledgement.

Now before I write any more I'll just say that I'm NOT getting the acoustic acknowlegment.

I've carried on with the remaining steps but it has not let me access the programming mode at all.

Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong?

The full steps are:
Step 1. Deactivate alarm function. With the bike sitting where you last left it, alarm on, press button 2 ( the smooth one to the right of the led , buttons on top pointing the fob at the bike)
Step 2. Turn gnition ON
Step 3. Press button 1 three times. This may produce 1 x acoustic acknowledgement, is beep confirmations are set on, but the indicators do flash.
Step 4.Turn igntion off within 10 seconds.
Step 5. Press button 1 three times. 1 beep, maybe, but th e indicators do flash once
Step 6. Turn ignition back on again within 1 seconds
That should get you three beeps and three flashes. You are now in programming mode.
Best work out beforehand what you want to set. If you do not activate a button within 30 seconds at each step now it will drop out of programing mode.
The first setting is whether you want those confrmation beeps or not. Personally I found them too loud for 6a.m. starts so turned them off. Button 1 ( ribbed) turns them on, button 2 turns them off. The indicators stil flash as confirmation, but quietly.
The next settings is not used, press any button you like.
The next one is type of noise. Button 1 for swelling, 2 for intermittent. To me, noise is noise. Set the alarm off afterwards and see which one is the most irritating, suggest you use that.
The last one is whether you want the alarm to auto set or not. Button turns on the auto setting, 2 turns it off. I beleive it is because we have this option that the alarm is not Thatcham approved.
Finally, turn the ignition off to save these settings.
If you thought that was tricky, try programming a Harley Davidson alarm. That requires several manual pages and a video !

I get to Step 3, I get no acoustic acknowledgement & the indicators do NOT flash.

I give up! Never liked alarms anyway. :spitfire

Sounds like a job for a dealer and a GT1 computer to resolve.

I had some similar problems when I first got my bike. Replacing the battery in the alarm fob was helpful in my case.

Don't hurry when pressing the button (which is what I did the first time and which is wrong) - press for a second or so, release for a second or two , press for a second ...

Dr. Ken & Looney,

Thank you! :thumb2

The combination of using my spare alarm plipper and waiting 2 seconds between presses has done it on the 1st attempt.

I've successfully changed from the Intermittent alarm (beep, beep, beep), which sounds too much like my garage alarm, to the Swelling alarm (woo, woo, woo). I've also opted for an audible confirmation when I turn on/off. Still kept the manual activation setting for now though.

Thanks everyone for replying, the virtual  are on me. :beerjug:

Imagine what a Wally I'd look like if I did! :augie

Its a fair enough question to ask a dealer for help, advice or a diagnostic check, none of the help tips here are stated in the owners alarm manual so how are we as owners expected to know?
