Running along quite happily on the motorway when al of a sudden the bike just died. Lickily I was in a position to get to the side of the road. Tried to start the bike but it would only start for a short while and cut out again. Managed to get the bike home but I want to know what this could be. It is an 06 1200gs any help would be appreciated.

Wot he said!

Get a brew first though. Searching the 1200 section for "fuel pump controller" is kind of like doing a google search for "tits":D

Cut out

How do I find this fuel controller and can this be fixed by myself?

Wahey. That was my 250th post. If I was shallow and thought a high post count was a good thing I would celebrate now.:augie

Apologies to all for going off topic.

Cut out Problem

Has anybody had this problem and had it fixed by BMW. Mine has now been carted away to BMW as I couold not start it this morning at all. I just wonder how much this is going to cost me?:spitfire

If its an 06 bike, its just out of warranty I guess, hence your question. Given that this is a known fault with the bike, I'd push to have it done for free - BMW normally oblige.

If you *did* have to pay, the part is in the region of £70-£80 or so and its about 15min labour.

Read this, its just happened to me on Sunday http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=145072

Its the fuel pump thingy and its goes very regular.....

There is a new type controler now, but it doesn't seem to be much more reliable.
Brian.

Brian, my controller was replaced a couple of months ago for the new type (05GS). BMW blamed the water ingress problem and the 'fix' was supposed to be better sealing on the new controller. It also seems from recent threads that the actual fault may not be water ingress at all, although you would have thought that BMW know that:confused:

From your post it would seem that the new unit is still causing problems, but is there any noticable difference in failure rate or does it seem to still be the same?

Don't carry a spare at the moment (after all, I have the new improved 'fixed' version:rolleyes:), but maybe I should ...

Give BMW a chance................
They have only been fitting these not fit for purpose parts for four Years.

"Vot the heck....record sales........vi should we vorry.
Danke England for boosting our economy.
Now , vot other hype can we flog to them..........a square wheel perhaps?
Start writing the glossy brochures and get two of their saddos to endorse it.
Theyll buy anything."

'marvelous thingies'

Your posts so far seem to have been nothing but self opinionated rants possibly caused by buying a bad bike.

These are technical threads you are trolling on and I suggest you keep your replies to constructive comments :thumb2

I don,t really rthink water ingress is the problem. I have replaced controlers thet look as if they have never seen water in their lives. if you look at the old and new units together, the body of the new unit is all metal, rather than part plastic on the old. The cooling fins are also much bigger, so this may indicate an overheating problem on the old unit.
Can't really comment on the reliability of the new unit over old yet, they seem to give up randomly, mileage or type of use doesn't appear to matter.
Brian
