Try these http://www.stahlkoffer.com/crashbars.php Probably cheaper than head guards, offer more protection and the guy is a site sponsor. I have a set and i think they are the biz (no i am not on commission)
They will only offer protection if the bike goes over or slides so personally I'd say neither one is better than the other. I have the placky ones and they feel sturdy enough.
The protection bars in the Dario link would be good to have with the rocker protectors to cover all potential impact areas. Those in the link have a weak point in their design though, no side fall over protection if there is a rock/kerb right where the head is going to make impact with the ground.
don't get the black plastic head guards. They break at the front hinge/bolt on in a fall. You need to replace them then! I'd go for a fuller cover design but not sure if they too break on impact?

The steel tube protectors look strong, but surely must limit the lean angle. I'm not advocating pushing the bike to the limit on every run but we all miss-judge the odd bend and its good to know there is space to law it down if you really need to.

There is a steel tube protector fitted to my bike but im not convinced it would save the heads if the bike was dropped. I think i will go for the BMW aluminium ones, although expensive i reckon it will be money well spent.
I have the aluminium ones... Dropped twice on each side (4 times) at zero MPH and apart from very minor scratches on the alumium, no damage to the cylinders at all.
