Cylinder head cover cost……if you say…..dropped it?

Asking for a friend……say friend dropped it and an R1200LC had a nasty bit of tarmac rash on the head and a grazed hand guard and a very slight mark on the exhaust can.
Are they ways to repair cylinder head or would you advise friend to just stump up their £250 excess and get it all sparkly? Especially as the rest of the 2015/16 is utterly mint and corrosion free.
Not had an insurance claim in 25 years! 😳

Depends on how quick you want bits... Once i find out the status of my bike i may have a pair of plug covers - postage costs only
 
You can pick up a mint second hand exhaust can for less than a hundred quid. Hand guard not expensive from main dealer. I imagine you’ll struggle to get a mint second-hand valve cover though so probably main dealer also.
Your insurance Co will remind your friend of the little mishap for years to come if he chooses to make a claim.. far better to source the bits yourself.
 
Ten years ago , a rocker cover , was approx £120, so who knows…. Guess £250 now ? Everything has doubled in price . Someone tell us ?
 
Agreed, definitely not an insurance claim. Plastic exhaust end cap £60ish new, handguard no idea but guessing £20ish then plug cover and cylinder head cover probably £300ish together although you could get the haed cover painted which would be cheaper or flog it on to recoup your costs. Still not worth the cost of your excess and the increase in premium following on.
 
Why would you claim on insurance after dropping the bike?
Just get the valve cover repainted/replace it. Handguards are... handguards... they are meant to be scuffed.
 
Maybe ask your dealer to replace the head cover on the next service, rather than incurring an extra fitting charge now, plus it will save any hassle if you’re not happy tackling it yourself.
The other bits are easy to change.
 
Just watch what the dealers try to add into the sale. I had a similar claim after a twat knocked me off my twin cam. Even though it was a claim I still just took the bike to the dealer for the parts purely for speed, rather than let the insurance take the bike away somewhere unknown. The dealer wanted to add every nut, bolt and washer to the deal….fecking stealers. I didn’t even buy the gasket. Refitted cam cover with all the original fixings and gasket, no leaks, sorted.

Cylinder head cover is just a couple of screws, the gasket doesn’t need changing, it’s designed for repeated removal

just don’t over tighten the screws
 
There are some good pattern rocker covers available too.

I used them on an ancient GS and they were fine.

Other bits Id live with until cheap ones pop up :)

So, to remove the cylinder head cover does it also involve withdrawing the coil on the spark plug? (Special extractor required?) & is there any oil loss, do I need to drain the oil?
