Hi guys,

I've just bought a 2014 GS TE after my 2006 GS was deemed to be BER by my insurance after a minor coming together with a car. The new bike doesn't have any cylinder head protection and I'd be interested to know what preferences you guys have, bars or 'protectors' ( whatever they are called).

I've been looking around and there's a huge choice (and price range).

Recommendations please.

+1 for the MachineArt X-Heads, I've fitted them to my GSA and they fit fine with the BMW crash bars.

The final drive housing is also vulnerable if you drop the bike, as I did on some spilt diesel on a roundabout, so it may be worth also investing in one of these

X-Head cylinder head guards, well made , I usually fit them after I've dropped the bike at the side of the road......:D

I have the BMW metal half-covers - didn't want engine bars on my TE because I don't like the look of them.

Probably not an issue for you, but 2 things to bare in mind if going for the X heads.

1. You have to take them off to change the spark plugs as they cover the spark plug bays.
2. On the GSA (I know yours is a standard GS so prob not an issue), I had to undo the crash bars to fit them as unable to get them through the space between cylinder heads and guards without undoing, so a bit of a faff.

Enjoy!
