Cylinder protection

My recent "incident" saw the BMW OEM crash bars being pushed into the cam cover.
I'm told that rather than bars, using something like B&G head covers are a better idea.

What are the pros and cons?

Use bars and covers.

AltRider Bars are superb!! - lets say I've tested them.... ditched the bike, abs sideswiped on a roundabout, bars completely save the bike

The BMW cam covers are £160 each so at £300 the Altrider bars are expensive insurance.
