If you have fitted one of these to a 2012 gsa please could you advise if the timing cover needs to be removed or if it's just several of the bolts being replaced with longer version.

yes- I search for the answer before asking ( forum and google)

Yes - I tried calling cymarc - no answer.

Yes - I tried PM Mark but mailbox full

No - not interested in any newbie bashing crap

It's just 4 bolts being replaced with longer ones

It's a very simple thing to fit. Timing cover stays in place, just remove 4 bolts and replace with supplied bolts and spacers, be careful because the spacers are 2 different lengths, top and bottom, don't mix them up. 10 minute job.

I fitted one to my 2012 GSA, been on couple of years, It certainly did not require removing the timing cover though I did shorten the spacer tubes.

Before you fit the guard, take out the cover bolts and plaster them with some marine grade antifouling grease. e.g. Duralac.

The engine cover paint is tough against stone chips but it cracks under the screw heads allowing corrosion to run riot under the paint. With the crud guard in place you will not easily spot the damage. A good layer of Duralac on every screw shank under the heads will help.

I had my cover recoated and fitted copper washers under the screw heads along with some Duralac.

Great advice thank you.

No worries. :)

My bike had no crud catcher with a small area of corrosion from under the belt cover bottom bolt. When I got around to looking properly I found corrosion starting all over the place. Powder coat sorted it but then I found the plastic cover was rubbing where the edges touched the new paint.

There are those who say its all down to lack of washing. However the very worst area of corrosion was at the top of the timing cover completely hidden under the alternator belt cover. In short, the OEM paint on 08/09 timing covers is not fit for purpose..

No need to remove any covers, just replace the bolts with the longer ones supplied.

....I did this job in 5 minutes, with no hassle.....and if you knew what a mechanical idiot I am, you would understand how easy a job it is :D

Thanks for the advice chaps. Took 10 min which included fitted new batteries in the torque wrench.

Can't fit the oil cooler grill yet as I can't find a powerful enough vacuum cleaner to suck the dead wildlife out of the unprotected cooler.
