but does anyone know what the little red light is on the dash below the trip button??
it has a clear lens but lights red

noticed it getting brighter over the last few nights home but cant find anything mentioned in the owners manual

It's the sensor for the instrument cluster lighting. It automatically adjusts the lighting intensity for day or night.

Page 18 in the manual.

Ah, back again. Shine a torch at the sensor and the instrument lights dim. But dunno why yours is glowing red 'cos mine isn't.



Found it! Look at page 58 paragraph 5, shows what the warning light detects.

Well enlighten us, when it glows red what does that mean?
Mine actually did it for a while when we were riding in the mud in Wales.
But then it stopped? Still dont know why and I aint got my owners manual with me at the moment.

I can't believe that BMW have put ambient light monitored adjustable instrument illumination on a high performance off roader I thought that low weight and simplicity was the holy grail of off roading.

Ive removed my seat because it weighs too much.

I asked and apparently the brighter it gets the nearer it is. I'm so lucky mine isn't on as i wouldn't really of known how to take care of the problem. If mine ever did come on, at least now I know how to sort it
