Dakar V XCountry ?

Ah, but if we go to South America it will be the TTR250 I take no matter how much I love the XC :thumb

Thank you Sue, we're going back to Iceland and have already got the contingency plan if the Dakar/XC issue's not resolved ....... A big tank for Ange's TTR. :thumb

Silly really, but even with the weight of a full 22ltr tank on the TTR I still had more confidence off road on that than on the 650 - it's a woman thing :angel

No it's not .... it's common sense :kissy2

Edit .... Ha ha just read my reply 'it's a woman thing'
.... 'No it's not, it's common sense'

Ha ha I didn't mean it that way darlin', but it seems to fit

:inlove

I've had both, the Dakar from new and the X country almost! I needed a light bike and the X Country has fitted the bill.
The X Country is a different bike to the Dakar, in my limited experience, better for me, for the reasons JB as mentioned.

On reflection I really disliked the Dakar but enjoy the X Country.

................and:cool:

......and yes, it's nimble, easy to ride, fun to ride BUT..... needs a lot of sorting and money to become any sort of all round/touring bike
ie.
Luggage/ frame
Main stand
rack
screen,
handguards,
heated grips,
lights (instead of the current candle:eek,)
fuel range:eek
etc.

So, Ange's Dakar could ride around the world right now as it is.

The big 'BUT' has always been, does it suit her needs and without being unkind, she needs a bike that feels lighter and easy to ride..........

ie. she needs a 'Girl's Bike', which is where the XCountry comes out on top.....

Micky, you're just not prepared to say 'There's two types of common sense' are you?:D

I'm thinking of getting one of these.:thumb Or, I was, until you called it a girl's bike!:D

Only if you're bothered about your image, it isn't one and you'll soon wipe the smile off people who day it is..............when you ride around the outside of them, when cornering:P

I suspect Tim, may be 'borrowing' it from time to time, as I expected him to denounce it - when he rode mine, but he didn't

Just a bit of information to add re a woman's point of view on the lightness issue - my wife not me!

I bought an XCountry a few weeks back off Kenny, for my wife. She had been riding a Versys 650 but had stopped enjoying riding it after breaking her ankle in a front wheel wipe out coming down a nadgery Welsh hill last summer.

She is quite tall at 5'9" but had the Versys lowered to flat foot it. Though the XCountry is taller, she is really happy without lowering it because it is so much lighter, nearly 50kg, and she is really getting back into her riding. She just loves the agility and weight of the XCountry, as do I. My son and I are always borrowing it. Cracking bike on tarmac and not so bad off it.

Exactly:thumb

Of course some folk get all defensive about me calling it a girl's bike:D:blast but you've both reinforced my point that it is and answered my question.

The weight of the Dakar is more of an issue than the height, but shedding weight from them is not an easy task.

What about trying some lowering links and dropping the forks through the yokes to bring the centre of gravity down, before getting shot of it? :nenau

I have an F650 and rode an XCountry a couple of weeks ago. I like the look of them, the shorter distance between your body and handlebars is good, it turns in quicker and is certainly faster than the F650. Great bike. The only thing I didn't like was the angle your legs are at/foot peg position, but that's down to my own physical needs. I still would prefer my F650 for longer journeys but for tearing about the roads round home the XCountry wins. I'm 5'10 and can get my feet flat with both of them so that isn't an issue.

she can come and have a go on my terra:cool:
