Brits and Australians are driving on the left side and most of the rest of the world on the right (right !! ) side?

Everyone used to use the left side of the road. It's all Napoleon Bonaparte's fault, he decided to march his troops on the wrong side of the road since (in some instances) it was clearer and less muddy. All those misguided countries that ride on the wrong side of the road (the right) are those influenced by post Napoleonic France or went along with the majority.

I thought it was a knight thing and your sword hand being the right. I like that better than Napoleon marching story.
