The display is no more, lights are on but there's nothing going on.
I turned the key from steering lock, went a click too far and the Datatool kicked in as I'd forgotten to switch the damn thing off, when I turned on the ignition again the RID display was blank. I wouldn't have thought that the alarm would cause any problems but they are both linked to the same permanently live fuse (No.3).
The fuse is ok (changed anyway) as are the relays, I removed the tank and cleaned EVERY connecting plug with P800 grade and ACF-50, still nothing.
With ignition off there's power at pin 5 and power at 5 & 6 with ignition on. So, clocks aff and RID out and dismantled....the lower section of PCB (below the clock adjusting plugs) was thick with green corrosion & a little bit of black looking burnt/shorted thrown in as well so it must have been leaking for some time and I'm surprised that it worked at all!
It had also been on an Optimate 2 for a couple of days prior so I was blaming either that or a power surge when the Datatool fired up but I think that it's just co-incidental and the unit was about to fail regardless.
Power is getting through to the PCB via the plug and loom as it should so can I safely assume that the unit is Farked?
Cleaned it up with some ACF-50 & a toothbrush thinking that I might manage to salvage something but nah, it's deid!
I suppose that it's false economy buying used as I could end up with the same again, but if anyone has a spare that I could try first...or swap for some money
I'm off to have a look at Motorworks to see how much these are, only had the bike for a few weeks a well dammit
Mike.
