Is the Hexcan just used for the switched live, and the permanent live is back to the battery ?

No hex does everything. Normally they supply you with extra plugs so you connect your two or three wires of your new device to their plug and then plug into hex. The hex is swiched on and off with the ignition as it is plugged into the bike. All very simple and so handy. I got a 7 inch screen Aoocci I think, anyway was out of sockets on the hex so just ordered a splitter from them and plug and play two items from the one socket
If your cameras have the parking function, ie will record if somebody pushes your bike over or tries to steal it, then you need a permeant connection to the battery as well as a switched live. The Hex isn't powered until you switch on the ignition. I had my Innov powered separately from the Hex for that reason. If you are not bothered with the parking bit, then connect direct to the Hex.
This was a couple of years ago, so maybe the Hex has changed now.
Mine is powered from the battery, with the “ignition on” wire fed from EzCan. This means it starts recording if the dashcam detects a jolt (such as someone fiddling with the bike - “parking mode”).
I’ve got the EzCan to wait 3 minutes after ignition off before signalling that the ignition is off to the dashcam - this is to allow the dashcam to finish recording the file to the SD card (which is set to 3-min file sizes).

You say very simple. How does the hex know if the ignition is on or off if it is only wired to the battery?
(You might get a gist of the extent of my electrical competence).
The more answers that arrive, the more complicated the whole thing sounds.

I have just fitted my K6 so if you want any help give me a shout, I am just up the road.
Morning Simon depending on the bike you unplug a plug on the bike put it in one side of the hex and the hex plug then plugs in where the original goes. This means the hex gets power with ignition on and goes off with power off
Expect a knock on the door!

You still need to wire in the power for a Hex, as well as plug it into the bike, the only thing you are saving is finding a switched live. If you just want a dash cam and that is the only accessory, you might as well just wire it in. Or buy something a lot cheaper like a Fuzeblock to distribute your power
What have I done? Inovv K6 kit arrived, unopened box with 2x cameras in it and a white box of bits, only the bits don't include the means to mount the cameras, just tidy the cables away! The other thing that has had me up most of the night with anxiety is the instructions are festooned with pictures of mobile phones... AGGGHHHH. I have put it all away again because it looks to complicated for me. Anything to do with 'computers' gives me massive anxiety for some reason, hence while I am still up. I can't sleep because I am worrying about it .
I'm with you on this. Computers are a mystery. Wiring is a bigger mystery. I got my local dealer to fit my Thunderbox and wire satnav, heated kit and Optimate to it. It took an hour and a half and they didn't charge me as it had been agreed when I bought the bike. Thanks, Total Triumph in Taunton. Excellent service.
The satnav is only used for end destinations such as hotels in towns I don't know. I tried to do way points and stuff and lost the will to live. I just kind of learn the route and if I get lost, so be it. It's quite hard to get very lost these days. Just keep riding until you find a signpost.
The mounts should be in the box, there should be a couple of angle brackets and bolts, plus some 3m sticky pads if you prefer. Just had a look on the Innov site and it shows the mounts are provided.
Just the sticky pads and the socket screws. No angled brackets or tube brackets. In a sealed polybag inside the box within the box.
It's OK - they are in another box underneath the cameras in their foam... I didn't take the cameras out at all, so didn't see the other box underneath, just the wires folded up under.
I will buy a fusebox thing to wire it all into.

I fitted an Innov K6 to my GS, the hardest part of fitting it was selecting mounting positions for the cameras. I do have twin USB outlets on my bike, so just plugged into one of those. The cameras have excellent clarity
