dash lighting...

stopped working today on my way to work. I think it works off that infra red thringy at the bottom of the dash, and i cleaned it a bit for the dash lights to work for a few seconds. Then they went off again.

but surely if the infra red thing was blocked, it would understand that it was dark and put the lights on?!?!?!? I've noticed that one of the LEDs is more obviously red than before? The handbook says nowt about it.

any ideas, chaps??

The dash backlight only comes up if it's dark. If you put your finger over the sensor the backlight will come up for a few seconds. Is this what is happening when you 'clean' the sensor or do you ride to work in the dark in the morning? Mine will glow when going through tunnels or under overhanging trees etc.

Don't know why they aren't on all the time really, it's just something else to go wrong.
