dash lights

hi guys coming to work this morning about half seven,neither light or dark and a slight drizzle ,overcast,the clocks seem to have a strange mind of there own.
sometimes the dash lights are on and sometimes they arnt.
if i pulled over and let it just tick over the dash lights went out ,but if i put my hand near the clocks the dash lights came back on ,its strange.
is there some sort of light sensor in the clocks .

Yep... look closely between the clocks and you'll see the sensor.
