So last year I said never again on the Airhead
And as I arrived yesterday afternoon it started to rain and carried on through the night!
The first lap went very well, I had a good start, even though I was taken out on the first bend, and managed all the climbs with some degree of control and best of all I knocked over an hour off last year’s 1st lap time of 2hour 40 mins.
Last year I also had to stop several times, this year was nonstop and I was even contemplating staying out for a 2nd lap.
I took a short break and then went out for my second lap, the track had really begun to churn up and although t went well for the first half the 2nd half took its toll and I arrived back in the pits shattered.
After a longer break I went out for my 3rd lap and found a course that was proving impossible for the Airhead with deep ‘engine catching’ ruts on all the climbs and it took me 40 mins to do around 20% of the course!
That was enough for me so it was a short cut out and an early trip home.
Thanks to Dave for the advice and early morning tea and the Irish clan and friends for the encouragement and use of the pits.
Next year I will not do it on the Airhead.
