I'm booked to be elsewhere this day, but I might try to rearrange so that I can spectate. I'll be worth it to see Super Enduro R struggling with his punctures!

:D

AND the duck diving! :augie

Re: the PM Matt, yes I was talking to you. :blast What have I let myself in for?

I've got my spare wheels and C-02's... I've watched the youtube video and reckon the 80 G/S is the perfect bike.

Well that's what I'm telling myself.

Do the other racers stop to help pick up your bike?

Course they stop to help !!!!!:blast

On there time sheet there will be a special box to tick ,

It says not really A racer only turned up to pick up some lard arse bike for another TOURIST!!!!

:augie

Sorry Wreford hope you like elbows in yer face mate :(

If your Lucky they might ride round you...depending on where you fall, you and the bike could become another obstacle to ride over!

What size wheels are they on your beast?? Seriously you want to be running mousses (sp? ice cream?) if your wheels ar 21 front 18 rear. There are big hills with big sharp stones, more big sharp stones on the flat bits, bogs, big descents with big sharp stones ...oh and did I tell you about the big sharp... After all it is run in a quarry

Who's stupid idea was this anyway?

I'm use to GS club offroad rides where I fall over every 54 minutes on average and big blokes rush and pick my bike up.

Next you'll be telling me I should be trainning as well...

I'll be running Mitas C-02's with HD tubes with some gunk in them.. ... If I get elbowed I'll just fall over on top of them

The regulations did say there are chicken routes around the difficult stuff.... I do hope that's the case.

I thought I'd practice my technical skills and tried to pull a wheelie last night... no luck!

last year a guy on a KTM 959 Adv finished

My strategy... ride at a pace where i don't fall off to often with the goal to finish, i don't car if I come last.

Go with the mousses (sp? ice cream?) if you can. That is still a big weighty bike and would say your pretty high risk for a puncture. They do have peeps that can rescue you and return you to the pits if your in trouble (well they did when I did it) but you still rely on others to pass the message on to them and then you have to wait for them as well.

Your strategy is sound but 12hrs is still a long time...take it easy

Taken from the regulations:

COURSE LAYOUT
The course will consist of a 15 to 20 mile lap of a flowing nature through forest trails, gravel tracks and ‘off road’ sections run entirely on private land.
There will be alternative routes as an option for avoiding any technical areas.

That tells me I'll be fine...

Also had a flick through the galley on the dawn to dusk site, nothing scary there.

What's peoples views on the Lemans style start... Should I skip my pre journey checks, oil level, tyre pressures, lights, and major bolts for tigtness and just get going?

There are two schools of thought here. The serious racers will be sprinting to their bikes and hurtling off towards the first corner/hill/obstacle in an attempt to get themselves into a lead of sorts, and away from any bottlenecks that may slow them down. With them will be the riders who have allowed adrenaline to get the better of them. The not so serious racers will amble over to their bikes, and set off once the dust has settled, at a nice steady pace that enables them to ride around the lemmings that have tangled together at the first corner/hill/obstacle. :D
I would stick with your routine if I were you, then at least you won't have that nagging doubt in the back of your mind that you didn't check, and you will be behind me.:D :thumb
As for elbows, it isn't the fast riders you want to worry about, they will ride around you as if you weren't there. The riders who THINK they are fast are the ones that will run into you, and bellow at you for holding them up, because they simply aren't good enough to get past you any other way.:nono Smile to yourself, happy in this knowledge.:thumb

Not long to go...

Airheads got it's new (hagon rebuilt) rear wheel with a Mitas C-02 fitted and hope to have the front soon. First test ride seems good loads of traction compared to the TKC

My training... left it a bit late started eating healthy and doing the odd run and MTB ride at the begining of August.

The guy who came 2nd last year road 15 laps! (20miles each)

He said many ride 2 then wait and ride the last

My intial thoughts - ride 3 lots of 2 laps

I'll take a camel back with SIS energy powder and have Malt Loaf and Camebert with Morocco Mint tea for the breaks

Who else is now doing this event?

matey I did my HP day with me from BMW did it last year hit a tree on first circuit and wrapped himself around it. Got a free helicopter ride which was nice but he can't recall much of it...
