Got a new set of the "old" style Tourances on Saturday, so thought it best to get them run in.

From other threads had a few ideas of where to go, you'll probably get the idea which ones :augie

Anyway, after the almost obligatory coffee stop at the Devils Bridge, then up to Sedburgh and on towards Tebay. The road goes parallel to the M6 and railway where it cuts through the Howgills.

Then on through Tebay and onto the B6260 towards Appleby-in-Westmorland. Cracking road with great views of the Pennines. Then onto the first target:

And so made the good decision of turning around on the tarmac which was nice and easy, oh to have remembered what was easy :blast

Nice views to the south though:

And then onto Hartside where the OAT gauge was flashing away saying it was 2.5 degrees C.

You sure you weren't out in the car?

Where's the bike in the pics then :augie

Edit: you beat me to it ......

And then onto the next target which is a track that shows up on Google earth running parallel to the B6277 near Garrigill and ends up near the start of the river Tees. All going well until another, "private road, bridleway etc etc" sign came into view. But it wasn't on nice tarmac and on a bit of a slope, in the rain the inevitible had to happen and abandon ship was orderd when I stalled the engine due to faffing about. Of course it was in the middle on nowhere, and after 15 mins of cursing and grunting and heaving got the bike back onto it's wheels. The only "damage" seems to be to the hand guard and a few scratches on the cylinder head guard :)

So after sorting myself out, and getting back onto the tarmac a nice run past High Force, Mickle Fell and onto Tan Hill. A nagging doubt said give up the other target, just go home while you're able to. Still in for a penny, in for a pound and so onto

Things going along nicely and the doubts were starting to receed until coming over a little rise the track dropped down to a gate  If I'd been thinking I'd have stopped at the top of the slope, opened the gate etc etc. But why do things the easy way :augie So down to the gate where the uneveness meant I couldn't get the side stand down :blast didn't want to put the bike down onto it's side, the other from the unplanned drop earlier, and so after some choice words and shuffling of the bike the stand had enough room to support the bike :)

Then onto a view over towards Bowes

And the sage thoughts of the day:

Don't go off road on your own :(

If you have doubts, listen to them, especially if you're out on your own. :(

Occasionally ignore the first two as it might be slightly adventurous :)

BM 1200 GSA guards do a good job at low speed :o

That's a lovely part of Engerlund up there. Many many times I looked longingly at those wee roads as I drove a truck up and down the M6. Nice wee report there John. Thanks. :)

Cheers, btw forgot to add the mapsource track, which includes the track over the moor and "the" gate. The route is deliberately "off-road" as it throws a fit on the Pennine way bit.
