day out in scotland

Yeah u can only get the 03.30 boat out if doing the 25 pound option. 07.30 out and 7.30 or 11.30 home on the 15 pound option. It's a cheap days biking. Scottish government must subsidise prices a bit to get people over. It's cheap for car too on day trip. Or 55 for bike if stay over one night. Hotel the heap

£55 is still a good price for almost 2 days in the west of scotland in my opinion . :thumb

Thanks OP for making this thread i was about to do the same myself as i am heading over with my dad for the day on the 8th or 15th.

For the £15 deal it is 07.30 to 19.30 only here is a link for others to check out

There is a link to a Scottish site from steana suggesting some routes you can check out here they are about 3 and a half hours each, obviously longer if you stop along the way.

I was after some gps route files myself for other routes to try and get the most in.

whats weather doing that day johnny?:augie

Heres a few possible routes, ferry from gourock runs every 30mins to dunoon, the loop of that peninsula is a must.

Pablo are these gps files for garmin that you have posted?

Anyone else got garmin gps files they could share?

Thanks..

As has been discussed on here before, to make a considerable saving on the Gourock/ Dunoon fare buy your tickets at the first newsagents on the right, as you enter Gourock from the south.

It really is a great deal cheaper than on the boat. ;)

Nicer roads if you head up toward New Galloway/Thornhill Out to St Mary's Loch Moffat for Lunch then bimble back Along the Solway Coast including a wee detour to Portwilliam and along the Coast to Portpatrick for Tea. Very little traffic on that route nice roads and options to shorten it if the weather is keek! :D

have this as a backup
route at the minute loos like
coast road A77/78 across the Erskine bridge
up west side of loch Lomond
loop back through garelochhead/helensburgh
back over bridge then A736 to Irvine
back on coast road to ferry
approx. 255 miles
but open to alternatives as always

For a day trip nearly better heading Moffat , Selkirk direction. Lots of traffic round Loch Lomond. If heading north take ferry over to Dunoon where traffic is light

Day out option from Cairnryan

:flag
A good one I find is off the boat then crunch the miles to Perth.
Onto Ballater via Glenshee, from Ballater over the hills to Grantown on Spey.

From Grantown south west ish for Spean Bridge.

Spean Bridge to Tyndrum via Glencoe, then down the west side of Loch Lomond to Dumbarton.

Over the Erskine bridge heading for the A737 ending up in Kilwinning.

From Kilwinning bypass Troon back onto the A77, Ayr ending up back at Cairnryan for the 23.30.

Home, pint, big sleep

Well Saturday for me and my dad was a wash out..

It didn't matter what direction we headed it was just rain rain rain and then we both each had a diesel scare at two separate roundabouts. The rain was so heavy at one point i had to change my tint visor to my clear one as it was so dark..

The good thing is we found a great road, the B741, which wasn't on the plan for the day so its noted for a return date and we also got back in time for the 15.30 ferry home(by all of 5 minutes) instead of the 19.30. We weren't the only ones to come home early too, there was about 15 Mods on the ferry over and they got the early ferry back too..just no fun in a day long downpour..

Scotland, ill be back..

Pity about the weather, ha well !!

If its any help depending on the weather, I have booked the Saturday 0330 boat on line as late as 10PM Friday with no problems.

Was over yesterday too. Home on 11.30 boat. 570 miles in a total monsoon. Got threw glencoe , Oban direction

hit a patch of diesel on a roundabout between ayr and prestwick.
engine bars and rocker cover badly scuffed as is the top box
lost a wing mirror and front indicator lens.
3 hours in A&E bruised shoulder blade and ribs, struggled back to the ferry and made it home.
police at scene said the spills had been reported earlier so hopefully roads dept will be liable for repairs but the way my lucks been lately i'll get a bill for fixing the road.
