I'm about to buy some new boots, the only makes that I can find to fit me comfortably, are a wide fitting Daytona Roadstar and Forma Adventures. I'm concerned that the soles on the Daytonas will get chewed up, like they have on my TCX infinity. Can you share your experience please.

Get the rubber inserts.
The serrated metal peg will chew up any boot sole.

I've used Daytona Travel Star's ( brilliant boots) along with "Foldaway" pegs with the studs removed for about 13000 miles or so (all on road), works a treat!

Two pairs of Daytona boots in four years, sounds like a problem enough.

To answer the OP: Yup, rubber inserts if you have the shark teeth rugged Adventure GSA type footpads.

You made that up. I have two pairs of boots. Not I've worn through two pairs of boots.

You know what, I think I did.

There again, as you have two pairs, maybe you are just wearing them out on the pegs half as fast.

Good point. Well made. Unless I wear a third pair all the time for the same period, I won't be able to arrive at a definitive conclusion.

I've been riding my GSA for 8000 miles mainly wearing my 3 YO Daytona roadstars without an issue, I have considered the inserts because it makes sense, I haven't had a comfort or boot wear issue.

You could always put the rubber insert onto one peg only and compare the result. There again, I suspect the sole of the left boot to be more affected than that of the right, on account of it pivoting more due to gear changes. Some allowance would have to be made.

Joking apart, that's what's happened to my Infinity's, left foot has a hole. In truth I have the peg inserts on the GSA, but I'm about to do a 5k+ trip on my xchallenge and as there maybe some off road I won't be using inserts on that.

Easy then.

1. Your new Daytona boots probably won't get that ripped by the GSA's shark tooth pegs in 5000 miles.

2. If they do, or you are worried about it. Wrap a bit of gaffer tape over the pegs' serrations and remove / replace the tape as, when and if, you need to.

That make sense, but having spent more than a hour wearing the boots in the dealers yesterday, I've plumb for the Forma Adventures. I wasn't confident with the width and comfort. At least with the Forma, it would only be a £200 mistake rather than the Daytona £400 one. Even at that the only pair that seems to be in the country in my size was on Amazon. I should have them tomorrow. I tried my size in the short boot version which was no worse than the Daytona, if not a little better.
Oh, size 49 boot, Rukka 13 glove, for most people 2 out of three would be success, for me it's a f@@king disaster.
