De CaT Headers

Anyone else got experience of the Keihan headers? Thinking they may be the way to go for my 07 GSA.

To be honest, I'm dissapointed with my Akra headers. They just don't fit properly and won't fit snug against the outlet manifold.

I bought a set of Akra headers for my 2010 TC and had endless problems trying to get them to fit with the touratech sump guard. the front balance pipe was angled so in the end I sold them on and fitted Remus headers. I sold that bike but have bought another since and fitted Keihan headers to go with my Akra end can. The Keihan ones are beautifully made and over £200 less than Akra's. The Keihan ones also have the balance pipe but its straight just like the original headers so everything fits beautifully.

sorry Satman I missed your post replying to another. Keihan headers are very, very good and compared to Akra ones are over £200 cheaper and fit perfectly ............. win win

The Akra balance pipe is angled so its effect is the same on both cylinders. But as said already, it probably does nothing on a 2:1 system so get the one that fits the best.

Mine is Akraprovic Ti. It's not identical L and R but it looks and sounds fab. If you find a good used one - grab it.

Thanks. I've also heard from a guy that's fitted Keihans to older boxers that the fit and finish is very good.

It looks to me like the only reason the decatted headers perform better is the lack of a cat, so better gas flow. It also seems like decatting a standard exhaust won't give as good gas flow as a set of new decatted headers, though whether the difference would be noticeable is debatable.

Is there much performance difference between after market headers and stock headers Witch have been de catted

Cheers all. Now just need to find time to get them ordered up. Damn work getting in the way of important stuff.

Sounds about right. But before spending £350 for a Hilltop remap I'd rather add £150 of used aftermarket header and be sure its got a reasonably good flowing system.

This shot of the OEM header shows just how uneven these pipes really are.

Fair point. I was planning a remap anyway. Reading this thread I think the Keihan headers sound just the ticket.

I had Remus on mine before I found the Akra Ti system. Remus stainless turns a nice brassy yellow. Ordinary stainless goes grey.

I found a local company that cut the out the cat for me. The guy who did it used to work for Janspeed, he has done a fantastic job and only £200.00
