I have just performed a catectomy on my original headers, I am also fitting a Remus can..........will I have to have the bike remapped???

Ok, I should have done a search.
The subject is extensively covered already.

Thanks guys.

Did you get a replacement bike or managed to get your own bike back up and running again?

I decided to keep my own. Very limited selection of used ones over here and the weak Euro makes going to the UK not so enticing anymore.
I have sourced all my parts and the bike is currently with my mechanic, I hope to have it back next weekend.

Mine got a power commander instead which works extremely well and it can always be sold on to recover some dosh if req'd

I don't have the schillings for a PC at the moment. The accelerator module was €40 posted to Ireland.........I thought, why not!!

I tried one of those. It put up my fuel consumption but otherwise made no difference I could detect.
You know that Hilltop can remap an ECU without doing the final dyno run? The result is not quite as good but 90% improvement is better than none.

I can have it remapped over here as well, I just can't stretch to €300-€400 at the moment. If the module turns out to be snake oil well it's only cost me €40 and a lesson learnt,

My independent BMW specialist has recommended that I don't fit the accelerator module. Any thoughts??

I transferred the Booster Plug that I had on my K1600GT over to my 2010 TC without any bad effects. It's similar to the Accelerator Module but with an external temperature sensor.
Hard to say if it has any benefit but I think it helps with a slight blip on the throttle for up or down clutchless changes.
From what I gather it enriches the mixture slightly only when then throttle is moved. I.e. Opened. Constant throttle openings are not affected. Haven't found any increase in fuel consumption. Fools the FI into thinking it's 20°c colder than it is.
I've just bagged a Power Commander V on eBay for £155 brand new so the module will probably be removed.
Now trying to decide on whether to go the de cat headers route with the standard silencer and no flappy valve.
Not looking for outright power just smoother and more torque. If I do go that way I'll probably get it set up properly on a dyno afterwards.

My bike's a 2010 TC.

I removed the flappy valve, then had the cat removed. Bike reaches redline very quickly....... So it has more pull, but also goes through the gears much quicker.

I then had a custom remap done in Dublin... Guy didn't have the same number of GS's to practice on as Hilltop, but spent a while on the bike and has greatly improved the fuelling.

However, my mpg has dropped a lot! Yes, I'm riding it like I stole it.... Feels like my old KTM Adventure. A hooligan bike which I had to get rid of as it was too extreme for my riding style.

I did over 200 miles to attend the Leenane event this week... I was running late and had some very cheeky speeds. Mpg getting there was 37.

Run home which included a 50 mile motorway run at 110mph ( with 130 showing a couple of times ) returned 38.5 mpg.

Since the remap, my bike backfires due to unburnt fuel in exhaust, rather than the usual popping on overrun.

I'm not convinced my bike is running they way it should be, but I really enjoy riding it.

I wanted perfect fuelling, but think I've been given race spec fuelling. The power delivery is addictive.

I've tried riding it sensibly for a full tank to see what it can deliver. But the horns come out and I keep defaulting to hooligan mode, therefore I deserve the low mpg.

I recently did a full day at about 70 mph on Swiss motorways to deliver a 45ish mpg. About 10 less than I would have expected.

I'm guessing the low mpg was due to the independent tuning rather than removing flappy valve and cat.

Im soon going to fit a Remus can to see if it helps with the backfiring, but I'm guessing it won't make a difference.

Would I recommend removing flappy valve and cat, followed by a remap?

Answer is, I'm not sure. I've got a very sharp GSA, but low mpg.

Hoping to get my hands on the PCV in the next day or two. Going to plug it in and see what happens.
Would probably have gone the Hilltop if it had have been handier to get at. He seems to know what he's doing. There's a guy near Lisburn, Mototech, who said to be able to work the magic. Anyone heard anything about him?
If the PCV isn't a success at least I should be able to get my money back on it again.
Going to keep my eyes open for a set of de cat headers in the meantime.
Not convinced about a different silencer. Most for sale seem to have only been used for a short time. Hard to stick maybe?
That fuel consumption is a bit on the high side. I'm hoping for something a bit nearer what it is now.

Decat headers (Keihan) and Hilltopped, no significant change to fuel consumption and I do take advantage of the extra power and responsiveness.

Well, installed the PCV this evening and, after a tense moment when it wouldn't start, it seems to be running fine.
Hard to tell if any difference but I THINK it's smoother while blipping the throttle. May get a test run out tomorrow.
Why wouldn't it start?
It seems that the PCV is powered by the fuel injectors and if you wait too long to press the starter, the fuel pump has pressurised and power is cut to the injectors. Press the starter soon after turning the key and no problem.
Something occurred to me while fitting it that might have a bearing on Betty's fuel consumption. Sorry, only name I know.
To use the PCV you have to disconnect both of the oxygen sensors on the headers. You can completely remove them if you want to.
Assuming this is to do with open or closed loop fuel injection. I'm on the limit of my knowledge long ago.
If your friend in Dublin wasn't sure what he was doing, should the sensors be connected or not connected with your remap?
Maybe someone who has been Hilltopped could tell us if they are connected or not?
It's a flat connector behind the plastic cover underneath the cylinder head. One on each side.
Be curious to know.
One other thing.
You say you had the cat removed. Does that mean you didn't change the headers?
If so, how did you remove it?

Since the remap I've had a DIY mess-up when I broke the bolt of One of the rocker covers.

It required me getting someone else to remove the exhaust and refit after repair to the left cylinder. So my exhaust is now fitted correctly and oxygen probes are connected ok.

There's a thread on here with photos showing how to remove the cat from the original headers. I chose to keep the original pipes and look initially for cost, but also insurance and MOT.

Local exhaust dealer in Newtownabbey does stainless welding and I gave him £40 to remove cat and seal up the original pipe.

As reported, bike now backfires, usually only shortly after first starting... (or whilst on whatever the electronic version of a choke is)

I have read that the Remus can is less "farty" than the stock item, so I've one in the post at present go try to quiet the bike down a bit.

Hilltop is indeed tried and tested. But too dear for me to visit from Northern Ireland.

I visited a Dublin tuner who's loads of experience at tuning race bikes. Custom map done on a dyno... specific to my bike.

Think I should have shelled out the extra for a Hilltop.
Mines now like a hooligan bike, but the cost is mpg.

Mototec is a well known and respected independent mechanic. I've never heard of him doing re-maps though. I'm sure he's able to fit a power commander though!

Power commander disconnect the sensors, hilltop keeps them.

Tried out the PCV this afternoon for about 50 miles.
Wasn't sure at first but the changes are subtle but impressive. Firstly, it is definitely smoother.
Not just my imagination, my Carpal Tunnel syndrome in my wrist was a lot less of a problem than usual.
I would put the smoothness on a par with the new R1200R that I tried a few weeks ago.
The driveability seemed to be better. Best way to describe it is to say that it's like having a good tail wind all of the time. You just throw the gears at it. Clutchless changes up and down are much smoother, too. Gear change assist my arse!
Found that I was often in a higher gear than normal at slower speeds.
The most surprising thing I noticed was that the bike seemed to be quieter!
I think it may have been due to not needing to open the throttle as wide and getting less induction roar from the intake.
What about fuel consumption?
When I fitted the PCV I reset the computer. Just came back from Spain and the Pyrenees last weekend and it was showing 53.3 mpg. About normal.
When I came back this afternoon it was showing 56 mpg. Certainly doesn't look like it will increase consumption so far.
Now I have to decide if I want to continue down the performance road. De cat, pipe, etc.
At the moment, the bike is performing really well. But, who knows. Being able to tweak the maps could be interesting.
Power Commander V? Recommended.

Can you tell me, has it helped with the "high pitched" handlebar vibes?? The problems I'm experiencing are quickly becoming unbearable and it's getting to the stage where it might be threatening my ownership!!
