Hi been looking for a set of de cat pipes for the bike and came accross some on ebay where the guy has taken out the cat on the standard pipes and welded it back together.

I know someone who does welding for a living so getting them welded again is not a problem.
Has anyone done this or heard of anyone doing it, does it work sucessfuly??

The ones on ebay are £100 + 20 postage.
I have some to fit but not on yet. By all accounts they do the same job as remus headers but have the advantage of the balance pipe.
Why not buy these and try them. The price is good as decat headers usually fetch up to £150 on eBay. If they do not work for you you will not lost any money and still have your original headers to put back on. If they work you have the option of having yours converted and selling the ones you bought.

Another consideration:
In this years new mot rule changes, there is a line in the car changes states "A catalytic convertor fitted as original equipment but missing will be a reason for failure."
It may just be a matter of time until they apply this to bikes too. Having the standard parts to refit at MOT time might become more and more important as time goes on.

Thanks for the reply

No MOT here in Guernsey so I can have what ever i like on the bike, thats why i was looking at doing mine and saving the £100+.
Just wanted to know if they work ok.

Done it, it's very easy.

Remove headers and you'll note there's a bracket under the sump over the cat area. Cut through the cat area where the bracket will cover the weld line, take a hammer, drill, chisel, whatever, to rip out the cat, get it welded back up and bolt it back together, job done and nobody can tell except you.

Cutting through and welding done at a local exhaust place for £10:thumb2

Picks up quicker, less flat spot midrange, no difference in sound.

Roger.

Just need to get intouch with me mate now for him to get his welding kit out.

Do the exhaust fumes melt the number plate ? Has anyone done this on a Twin Cam ?
