Went to start bike today and got EWS warning, plus weird things on the instruments, then bike was dead. Checked battery voltage, 5.3V!!!

No alarm fitted, ridden 10 days ago, so battery should have been OK. I really hoped that this bike would be Gremlin free. Called dealer who said to get it BMW assisted to their workshop.

Fucin bastid BMW shite. £15k for a bike that runs for 6 weeks and then packs up.

I agree their is probably an issue, but it would get you going.
Do these new fangled bikes have parking lights any more? :)

I would try a batter charger myself.

It shouldn't need one

i went out on my 1150 GSA yesterday, I've been away on another bike and so hasn't been used/started for 29 days and hasn't been on a battery tender, just left

Fired up first press of the starter.....................VROOM

Exactly.:thumb

I alternate between bikes, so one can sit for 2, 3 or even 4 weeks between rides. I've never used a battery charger, and never had an issue.

Sounds like a gremlin.

OP, keep us posted.

I've brought a new battery in the past which lasted 4 weeks bike was used daily, then while out on a ride out parked up while having lunch and it had died got recovered back home and returned battery for another never had the problem again.

So it happens, just bad luck really

Terry

The bike might be 10 days or 10 months old but the battery can be years old.

If it's any comfort, you did better than me. I rode 100 miles to Norfolk to part run in a brand new HP4, only to suffer from a completely flat battery when I refueled at Walker's cafe, the battery failing to hold any charge. The bike (and I) was recovered back to London. Get over it. Shite happens. The world still spins on its axis...........

My GS LC had a flat battery when it was a few days old. I'm pretty sure it was the Tomtom powered cradle.

It's not done it since and was stood for weeks on end in the garage last winter and started without a hitch.

Welcome to BMW ownership...."it's character"..."they all do that"..."quirky"...

Previously I've owned R1200 RT's, GS's, TC and LC, and know all about BMW ownership. I really thought that the S1000's would be better. Would you accept this if it was a BMW car? No, but because it's a bike it's all part of the experience!

Yes I'll get over it" Mr Wapping, but this should not happen on a premium product.

Thing is it's the best bike I've ever owned so all will soon be forgotten.:D

Why not wait to see what the problem is, before getting too excited? Do BMW make their own batteries?
