dead battery

Usual stuff battery has died in the cold. I'm told the motobatt MBTX9U is what I need, (I've got a 2011 TC) any good?

No idea if that is the right one for your bike but in general motobatt is good. Only had mine for 2 years but 0 problems with it.

Is the Motobatt MBTX9U mentioned a direct replacement for original, ie is it same physical size?

Does the TC have a different battery to the hex head? My 09 is a 12U

The difference between the 9U and 12U is:-

12U is 130mm high and is a 14Ah battery
9U is 105mm high and is a 10.5Ah battery

I fitted a 12U to my 2010 TC a few weeks ago. It was a perfect replacement for the OE Exide ETX-14BS.

Ok the 12u looks like the better bet but does the extra height get in the way of anything or will it slot straight in?

I've got an odyssee battery in mine which was in the bike when I bought it back in July 2008, it's never let me down, never been on an optimate, left from middle/end of Oct until last Sunday without a charger on it and I put the key in to check it was ok, fired up on first push of the button, brilliant battery.
It's at least nearing 7 years old now,

If anything Matt, it looks about 20mm shorter than my 2013 OE battery, probably best to take yours out for a proper measure up.

I have an odyssey bought used form another Tosser. It's very snug in the battery box and Ive fitted it back to front because the main cables fit more easily but its never had any signs of trouble in all weathers.

Yes the 12 comes with a spacer to pack the hight up to the same as my 09 battery.

Oh I dont know, might it be the same as a 2011 since they use the same battery?

All hexhead 1200s use the same airbox & battery holder.
Option 1 ultra cheap and expect to replace it bi annually - you could get three for the cost of one new Odyssey.
Option 2 go top totty with a super small super light dry cell Ballistic.
They last 10 years and sitting unused for 12 months will lose only 10% to self discharge just swap to the next bike.

Not a cheap option, but I've been really pleased with my odyssey battery from Nippy Normans (there are other vendors - but he sponsors this site). It's a bit of a faff to install as its so big, but if you want the ultimate in cranking power and longevity then this is the one to go for - IMO. I've had motobatt's too in the past and they're really good, but the odyssey is the daddy.

+1 the Odyssey is fit and forget. Mine never goes onto the Optimate either - no need.
