So went to start my WC GSA this morning , nothing on the dash no lights no warnings nothing dead . put the optimate in the accessory plug and its not charging . If it is discharged do i need to take the battery out and try again directly wiring up the optimate ? Odd . Never had anything like this .I'm sure it was all switched off after yesterdays ride .Anyone anything similar ?

Are you aware that the accessory socket shuts down (by the Canbus) - ten minutes after the bike is switched off?

You need a Canbus-specific charger to use the sockets. So - yes............ connect direct to the battery, would be my advice.

Thanks I'll pull it apart tonight:thumby:

This happened to my 2013 GS TE on Saturday morning. Was about to set off to meet a friend, turned ignition on and almost immediately everything went blank on the display. I have an Accumate ready to connect direct to the battery and after half an hour the voltage only read in the 9's so I had to leave it at home and spend the day on my 2008 Fazer FZ1S.

Started up just fine when I got home late afternoon.

One consolation is that when I then went out for an hour or so on the GS to give the battery a good charge, it made me appreciate how much more I like the GS than the Fazer. So much nicer to ride !

I would still like to know why it went flat after spending the day on it, the week previous.

It's a new bike (I think).... But do not pre-suppose that the battery is anywhere new, too.

The very duff on one on my HP4 was more than a couple of years old. Not surprisingly it would not hold a charge at all.

I was running the bike in over a weekend, it got from central London to Mildenhall where it died, terminally. Recovery required.

Faulty Battery

My mates 2014 GS LC had the same problem after about 800miles, faulty battery, known fault apparently. This was in April he had to wait 3 weeks for a replacement battery  he did have a loan bike from the dealer though

That's a bugger ! Glad I still have the T Max as well

so right hand side panel off , foam covered battery on a foam plinth , undo the Neg pull like feck undo the positive . less than 1 volt on the multi meter . Optimate in the socket (mk 4) all day nothing . Wired it up direct and it seems to be charging .I'll keep the direct lead for the optimate on . Not as easy as the TC and a bit Heath Robinson for a 15 grand bike . Will let you know how it goes but looks like a failed battery .

The Optimate may charge the battery but if the cells are dead it will not hold the charge very long.

You may find that the bike will start and will run but the alternator (which is running fine) will not charge the battery on the move.

When you stop, say for fuel, the bike may well not restart; the battery will be as dead as one of your more unlucky patients.

Mine went flat after being parked up for about four days just after I bought it. The only thing connected was the Tomtom Rider cradle via the DIN socket.

After initially trying to fit a new battery borrowed off a GSA LC from Jefferies (it didn't fit - the GS LC battery is taller and higher capacity), I resorted to charging the original and it's been fine since. I just make sure the TT cradle is disconnected when I park it up.

I had my 2014 GS in for a running in service last week and got a new battery under a recall - might be worth a chat with your dealer.

I took the toy town battery and spacer out and fitted a Odyssey battery problem solved, also ride it enough to keep it fully charged.

Cheers for that . I'll see how it looks but fear you are right . Shame , I've used it a lot since I bought it , but heh such is life . I've dealt with far worse all day:D

OK 2 green light s on the optimate one yellow 0.2 amps so it's still cgarging it up . Will be looking for a replacement battery me thinks

If the battery is truly dead in that it won't hold a charge, yes, you may well be able to jump start.

Disconnect the leads and the vehicle will very probably die.

If by some miracle it keeps going, running on its alternator with no parallel charging of the battery, the next time you stop it will need jump starting again..... Repeat as necessary.
