Dead zumo

i was thinking of changing to a zumo, but i'll be hanging onto my reliable gpsmap60csx now i think :)

Got a Zumo back today from Garmin, its not mine but a refurbished different unit so no doubt somebody will get my old unit in a couple of months time :augie

I love the Zumo when its working but to be brutally honest I think its only a matter of (short) time before they pack in working.

As the 'repair' is only valid for 90 days I'll probably end up with a £350 paperweight in a few months time............

I had two problematic 550's and in the end swapped to a 278 which is fantastic. Have to say that Garmin's customer service was excellent.

This is worrying. I had planned to change from my StreetPilot 111 DL which has given me no trouble at all to a Zumo550. Might have to re-consider, and just endure the piss taking from my riding mates about my antique, steam driven piece of kit.

Strangely, coming back from Magny Cours I met with Dellis and his good lady, and when he saw it he said to keep hold of it at any cost. Maybe he knew!

i've got a totaly reliable nav system it's called a map:thumb
if these 500/550's are such a crock of shyte why do you keep buying them???

It was a pleasure to meet you and as I said at the time keep the SPIII or get a 276/278 either way you won't be disappointed.

Another one bites the dust....

Zumo 550
bought October 2008
Died January 2009

T'was a short but beautiful life....

Garmin customer service better impress me now 'cos I am :tears:mad:

Funny how when I was deciding what to buy all I found were threads saying how the Zumo 550 would even make the tea.

Now it's died I am surprised to see that failure is very much an option and a rather commonplace one at that.

£400 odd for a doorstop! Time to use the backup:reynolds

Bought the Zumo 550 in April '07. No problems so far except I lost the magnetic flap and security screw of the motorbike cradle. Called Garmin Customer Service (excellent!) and got missing parts replaced w/o charge..
