Dear Santa.....

That's nice but it would look better with spoked wire wheels and if they got rid of that cheap looking checker tape finish. Makes it look like a Triumph Thruxton Bonny. :barf

It's one of Kevils speedshop subframes. There's been a few comments from the guys in the States who have bought them not being happy with the strength of them. I think they're ok on the mono machines but no good for the twin shock machines. Ebay link

It's strange with the cafe BMW's you take a bike thats worth just over a grand, strip the standard parts off and flog them on ebay and then put a few hundred quids worth of bits on it it give it a coat of paint and then ask £4-5k for them. I can't imagine many people falling for it or wanting to pay that sort of money for a bike that wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding.

So a bit shit then.....:D

I suppose it is but it's a quick way to get the "look" the Von Zetti seats fit straight on. Strangely the feedback for the seats are that they are good quality and nicely made.

Cafe BM's do look much better with the shorter seat and sub frame.

it does look very nicely put together and finished for those who dont want the hassle of doing it , will happily pay the price i suppose:)

The big problem i have with Ace cafe specials like that is that frame dont look strong enough for the job and most important of all you dont know what back street abortionist has thrown it together.
And as Rob says it is way over priced.

no, carry on.

i have seen it, done a little work on it. it's not my cup of tea, i'd rather a standard model with a bigger engine myself, but it's well done and looks great. sounds fantastic too.

this is not the first one he's built. I've followed it's predecessor on the road and it seemed to go alright. it got masses of attention and approval wherever it was parked.

and i know exactly what back street abortionist has thrown it together :D

That's fine for you if you know the builder but i would not buy from an unknown source.

Certainly does look well finished....that is a nice looking bike but as Rob said, overpriced for what you get.

I actually prefer spoked wheels ( although these cast also look OK ) on this type of bike but again that is what makes these bikes so popular, we all have different tastes and budgets.:thumb2

Besides, when did you get a friend ? :D

spokes would have been nice, but would have pushed the price up as they would have to be sourced. it came with allys.

now they are painted, they look much better than i would have thought.

The one thing I can say for my airheads is that they will pull the skin off a rice pudding. Or at least I'm fairly sure they will. Never actuallly tried it.
Well there's a little project to relieve the boredom of Christmas afternoon...

Oh and now that the weather has turned to (worse)shite I'm only riding the one with cast wheels cos I'm so fed up with cleaning spokes.

And that Kevill bloke gets my vote; he sold me a decent pair of tyres at a very fair price. :thumb2

Are you sure we are comparing the same bits?

The bike linked above is not one from Kevin's Speedshop but built by someone else. I've seen the subframe that Kevin uses and it looks more substantial than that? Kevin's bikes are not thrown together, he does a good job of building them up. Its also a bit more than "a few hundred quids worth of bits". The subframe, rear-sets, seat, tank with flip filler, clip-ons etc are over a grands worth before the many hours of labour that go into them. Not to my taste but I've met him a few times as I've bought many bits off him and he is a genuinely nice bloke. No, I wouldn't pay over £4,000 for a tarted up old airhead like that but many people do and he is doing very well these days.:)

I told him he could come along to Airhead Weekend next year but I did warn him he might be burnt at the stake as a heretic by some of the older members on here:D

Sid,

I'm not saying the bike is built by Kevils. Cookie also said it was built by his mate. I'm saying the subframe and seat are the VonZetti units. I'm not doubting the Kevil is a decent bloke,

looks like the same subframe to me on all his bikes. Kevils bike shop and the Von Zetti sub frames all come from within a couple of miles of each other.

Not certain that would take my 19 stone....
