A question for the more experienced GS mechanics ???

My bike is a 2004 and the header pipes are looking decidedly scabby. I have been offered a set of nice condition ones albeit with the cat removed from them.

My question is
1. Will fitting these pipes have an adverse affect on the ecu, what I mean is would I get warning lights coming on etc ?
2. How will this effect an MOT, I presume if a cat was fitted as standard would this then effect the MOT if it were to be removed.

I have searched for previous posts on this subject but nothing seems to pop up.

Make no odds.
No emmissions test on mot for bikes.
Ecu won't care.

Before you fork out your brass though, have a look on here for header rejuvenation threads.
Some remarkable transformations have been achieved.

Get them, fit them and enjoy the performance increase. :D

No, you won't get any fault codes and you can reassure yourself about the fuelling by getting a dyno run. It would probably benefit from being remapped to get the most performance but I suspect that an '04 is unlikely to be dangerously lean. BMW did seem to map them progressively more lean with each iteration.

Since there's no emissions test in the motorcycle MOT, you shouldn't encounter any problems with a de-cat.

Is the performance increase reasonably significant then ?

Having fitted Remus headers to both my old '04 and '07 bikes, there was a noticeable increase in performance. Seat of the pants - they were both as quick as my current twin cam. Other people have commented on similar results from decatting OEM pipes.

Nice one, thanks for the tip.:thumb2
