Having dodged many a kamikaze deer at this time of year they finally got me on Friday evening. A gentle bend at 40 MPH in the evening sunshine and BANG! Deer steps out...not even time to brake. Off we go down the road...bumping and banging finally to flip up into the air and face plant the tarmac.
My beloved GS all banged up BUT a few observations.
1) People are still basically kind - thank you so much for the help from the drivers that stopped to assist.
2) Emergency services brilliant - Paramedic car there is under 10 mins (so I am told) with air ambulance (not needed thankfully) warming up within 2 mins of the emergency call, followed by a meat wagon and the cops in under 15 mins....bearing in mind I was fairly rural at the time nothing short of amazing as were the people concerned. Special thanks to Sgt Jay Hewes of Hamshire Constabulary...very understanding and a very good bloke (fellow GSer). They were all convinced that the quality of my kit had made a big difference to the outcome...especially my helmet.
3) Trax Panniers - Anyone worried about build quality...don't be (see pics). A 1/4 ton of bike on it sliding down the road...frame and box integrity brilliant
4) BMW kit - Street guard jacket and summer trousers....slid down the road on my back...kit stayed together, back protector and knee pads took a hammering but stood up to the task with no burn through and only minor stitching giving way.
5) Spada sting helmet - Took one hell of a beating and withstood a full face plant and remained intact....oncoming driver thought I had had it when he saw this...amazing bit of kit for £89?? (and allot quieter than my old Tour X3).
6) God - thank you for letting me walk away with a few bumps and bruises.
7) My wife - after the initial shock was heard to say to a pal of mine...."he will do anything to get a GSA!"....what a star.
As for the insurance company...let battle commence.
