I've had problem, so it seems for the last week that my laptop isn't charging the battery when running mains power

Phone Dell support and the said the battery was probably kapput at 2.5 years old and a new one would be needed

So bought a new Genuine Dell battery today and installed, still no joy

Power light on front indicates mains power is ok, but no adjacent batter power light is on, showing battery is being recharged:mad:

Tried 2 different Dell chargers to no avail

No changes to Laptop, since the problem reared its ugly head

What's up?????

Dell are closed for the weekend, so can't call them:tears

Sounds about right (their initial advice) all the Dell lappies I've ever had, have had the battery go at the 2 year point, almost entirely or barely holding any charge.

If it's not charging the battery however it may be the power components of the logic boards- earlier dell models had a replaceable power board inside but in todays world this may be part of the main board and not easily fixable...

Some call it built in obsolescence...

Dell not charging.

Suggest you find a friend with a similar laptop.
Swap batteries. Check does your battery charge & work in other & vise versa.

You may find that, with a fully charged battery, yours runs on the battery but does not charge.

Sometines the charging sircuit on the laptops fails, sometimes the mains facility aso fails, & laptop runs on battery whilst charged. Either way, replacement motherboard is required.

If so & out of warranty, I usually buy on ebay & change myself.
On D505/150/520/530 - 20 mins from setting laptop on table to start job till it is powered up again.

Luckily my 'learned friend' who sourced my Dell laptop, sensibly procured it with 3 years warranty and next day on site service...............so it's Dell's problem on Monday

And I thank my 'learned friend' for his wise advice:thumb
