Dent Weekend 31st May - 2nd June, 2024

Just a heads up…

Country Fest at the Westmorland showground this weekend, so Jnct 36 and the access via Crooklands will be busy at times.

The A65 has traffic lights/roadworks just off Jnct 36, on the way to Kirkby Lonsdale (about 1/2 mile from the roundabout.

The A65 also has traffic lights at the junction at Devils Bridge, due to burst pipes.

There are a LOT of ‘travellers’ along the A65 and routes up to Sedbergh and on to Appleby. Many, many bowtop caravans with horses, we have seen several accidents on the A65 this past week.

Also, it’s half term up here this week, so plenty of numptie tourists who don’t know the roads or how to drive/indicate/park safely …etc.

Be safe and have a great weekend, I’ll be carting logs so please be kind to the red Defender towing a heavy load of winter warming sticks if you pass him!

Hope all goes well guys, and Margaret doesn't kick off again. FFS don't put your tents in the wrong place :D

Give her a hug from me :thumby:

A lot of travellers from the south east made it up here, but raids by the police have recovered several caravans and vehicles which had been ‘liberated from their previous owners’ - most seemingly from the south east!

Nice idea Paul. Count me in for sausages and stuff Friday. Happy to contribute as appropriate with some cash. Will 50p be enough? 😏

For those that don’t know JB’s road closed Sign is the road from Ribblehead viaduct towards Hawes. Newby Pass is just about where the Road that goes east from Dent meets the B6255, so no access to Dent that way on Friday. And the B6255 will a slow gravelly mess for the next few days too.

If you’d planned to come this way you have two alternatives: From the A65 either take the minor road over the moors with 5 gates to open/close from Thornton inLonsdale near Ingleton OR easiest way head towards Barbon from Devils Bridge in Kirby Lonsdale. The most direct way to Dent from the M6 is junction 37 through to Sedbergh then follow the signs in Sedburgh to Dent. There’s a decent Spar on the outskirts of Sedburgh for supplies.

That five gate route can be a ball ache when your fully loaded and on your own; not so bad if there's a few of you taking turns opening and closing; it would be the Sedburgh way for me.

Kingsdale, never heard it referred to as a ball ache before! Whatever next?

Hmmmmm, it looks like the pre-booked weather is starting to arrive.:Motomartin
I'm tempted to trundle up there today. Finger in the air time.👆

It is when you go over with the bike whilst stopping to fanny around with the gate; or that could just be me;:D:beerjug:

The Devils Bridge-Barbon route is the one I normally take. I can't be arsed opening and closing the gates on the other road. I'll be taking the back roads from Preston, Goosnargh, Inglewhite, to Caton.

Your grey one has the five gates on it. It’s a very spectacular route though. The red route is closed from chapel le dale to the left turn that takes you down past the railway line.

If you don’t want to do the gates - which are a pita on your own, especially the one on a 1:5 hill - stay on the A65 East bound to Kirkby Lonsdale and take a right at Devils Bridge (you will come into 40 limit and see a whole load of bikers parked up about 150yards up the road to your right immediately before a speed camera. Take that road (brew hut etc where the bikes are) and carry on for about 3miles looking for signs to Barbon. There’s several right turns any of which will get you to Barbon, including one that’s virtually all grass now, the one to take is just before a bridge over a river and has a brown sign for a heritage centre. In Barbon just take the signs for Dent.

You could always park your bike in Leeds and get the train up to Dent, relax enjoy the scenic ride, get pre pissed on the train, walk the five miles to the campsite 😂😂😂😁

A heads up for anyone heading from the east side

The A59 blubberhouses road is closed and the diversion is through Pately Bridge
