Hi

I know I want one, you know I want one, all my mates know I want one, my girlfriend knows I want one, but I just can't seem to take the plunge.

I've ridden one, and I love it. I've got the dosh. There's one available in the spec I want. ( I'd spec one with abs, heated grips, engine bars and the factory luggage.)

But I what if I can't live with it. How much am I gonna lose over one, two or three years ? And how would that compare with a Varedero or V Strom.

I'm sorry I'm being such a prat.

Thanks

Hi Tangent :)

You have answered all the questions.
As they say life is tooooo short ,can't take it with you etc.

PLUNGE
time to jump of the cliff
or
Dive in

Come on the waters lovely
:D happy Gs"ing:moped:

Can't answer your questions on depreciation, but my guess is about half of the other 2 bikes you mention. You can buy either the Varadero or V-Strom for £2k less than list anywhere - try doing that with a GS. I'll be able to tell you next year, when I trade mine in for another one. :) Go for it - you won't regret it - ever!

Charles

I looked at this a little while ago. The depreciation in the early years for an 1150 GS is much less than other bikes. Also as I understand it Honda's have 4,000 mile service intervals.

Here are some indicative figures taken from Ride's Secret Trade Price Guide 2004:

DL 1000 2003 2002
Cost 6,999 6,999
Private price 4,340 4,815
Depreciation 38.0% 31.2%

XL 1000 V 2003 2002 2001 2000
Cost 6,499 7,099 7,099 6,795
Private price 4,515 4,115 3,775 3,415
Depreciation 30.5% 42.0% 46.8% 49.7%

1150 GS 2003 2002 2001 2000
Cost 7,595 7,595 7,595 7,595
Private price 6,855 6,415 5,755 5,175
Depreciation 9.7% 15.5% 24.2% 31.9%

Cheers

Spot the deliberate mistake? I got the DL 1000 figures the wrong way round.

Just remember. Once your in..... your in. Its like joining the mafia, very difficult to leave and you can only mix with your own kind. Quite good though.

Just do it!

I was you 3 weeks ago. 1 week ago I took the plunge. and in 5 days from now I will be riding it :D

The only hard part is deciding how your going to pay for it.

To whet your appetite some more and hoperfully tip you over the edge....

R1150GS Adv in Black
w/ alu panniers/topbox, heated grips, ABS, white indi, engine bars, std gearbox, std tyres, Nav2, Nav2 car kit, tankbag, low seat, autocom, h/lamp grille and extra socket :D

OMG, I cant wait till Friday :D :hpbirthda :beerjug:

Oh and as far as depreciation goes, my worry was it would be softer because of the new 1200. After riding both, they are completely different bikes and I'm sure the market is different too therefore the depreciation isn't going to be an issue. Maybe when they do a 1200 Adventure I will swop.

Thanks guys for you encouragement.

mikeh501, what sort of deal could I expect to get on a GSA with luggage, grips, abs and engine bars ?

I got approx £550 off between a discount on the bike and some bits which were either free or they met me half way.

I bought an Adventure in May 02 covered 13000 miles by July 03 when I lost control ( no fault of the bike) and the bike was written off my insurance settlement was only a loss of £500.

Try doing that with a Jap Bike

Just to prove the enjoyment I took delivery of a new one in the August 03 and already have over 10000 miles on that.

don't wait any longer life is too short
