Has anyone had any experience using on of these desert air filters from SWT? I’m thinking of fitting one to my special because riding off-road in a group in very heavy dust there was fine dust getting past the OEM filter into the air box. I was thinking one of these might be better if combined with an oiled foam pre filter over the top. Anybody used one?

I've bought one for my bike in NZ as i found that an oiled K&N panel filter gets pretty clogged on the type of trips that I use the bike for (2-3 weeks at a time on the South Island, often on gravel roads which throw up a lot of fine dust). I'm hoping that, as Manuel states, most of the stuff it collects will simply knock off. I can't confirm as I've yet to use it in anger. I think Richie Moore offers something similar tho his features a K&N?

Noisy, and dont get it wet. The standard twin inlet air box flows really well, so unless you’re wringing out the last 1/10th of an HP, probably an unnecessary expense.

And when you’re stuck with a knackered filter somewhere, the elements aren’t an off the shelf item.

I have had the same K&N filter instead of the OEM one for the last 2 sandraiders, knocked it on the floor a couple of times and vacuumed it after both trips. It will handle a 3rd trip next year without problem.

I was more concerned about fine dust getting through the paper filter into the air box than power. I need to check it’s sealing properly
