I put a couple of ltrs of diesel in before I realised what i was doing this morning and then topped up with 25 ltrs of petrol. Obviously, i did not continue my journey to work and returned home :blast

What do i do? Syphon off all the fuel in the tank and refill?

Thanks in advance.

If the amount of Diesel you put in represents less than 5% of the tank capacity then it will be fine. You will initially see smoke whilst the diesel residue is burnt off, after this the bike should run as before the incident, the more Petrol you can put in to dilute the Diesel the better. You can also buy a specific additive to remove any diesel residue left in your fuel system. Too much diesel will clog up the spark plugs and fuel system, causing the vehicle to misfire, smoke and possibly stop running.

I put just over 2 litres in my Blackbird then topped up with about 12 of petrol. Didn't notice anything undue apart from the exhaust fumes had a different odour. I was worried about the cat but when I got home she was curled up on the sofa.

Cheers - that's what i have read online. I reckon i've got about a 10% mix. Probably ok, but not worth risking. I will drain into a jerry can and use it for the lawn mower!

You have put in 27Ltr of fuel mix, 2 of which is Diesel. 10% equates to 2.7Ltr of Diesel, is that what you put in? If your Lawn Mower is 2stroke then that fuel mix will be fine in it.

30 litres short of what I shoved into my GSA.

With your small volume / ratio of diesel to petrol, you'll be fine; just keep diluting it. Eventually the smoke / smell will stop, mine did.

It's a tractor engine in the air cooled so don't worry, might just run on compression after you switch ign off though :D

If you can drain it I would then the garden tools will be happy enough

throw a half a cup of fresh clean castor oil in the tank (or std vegetable oil)

it'll help lube pump and injectors plus if you use castor oil it smells nice :aidan

It'll run okay as it is Not perfect but any soot will soon burn away on a decent ride :rob

p.s. The castor oil thing isn't an bad thing to do once in a while!!! It does actually help lube stuff etc :thumbYou can just use Redex Fuel additive but it doesn't smell as nice :D

air cooled

It is not Air Cooled what fucking muppet came up with that "description" :blast

Its Oil Cooled just like the 1100 / 1150 predecessors i.e. Oil Heads :thumb

The only truly air cooled ones were the pre injection Carbed ones!:rob

Next some dickhead will be telling us its a GS1200

yeah, about 2.5 ltrs. its smoking a little now. i dont want to risk it so i'm going to drain 20 ltrs (the size of the jerry can i just bought!) and then dilute with fresh fuel.

i'll use the 20 ltrs in the mower - its a 4st i believe, perhaps i should dilute the fuel before i use it in the mower as well..

cheers for the advice guys :thumb2

ps its a GSA1200 ;)

You must have a bloody big lawn, 20l would last me about 3 years. Stick it in the car, unless it's a diesel!

Have I missed something?

You put a small amount of diesel in your tank

You ask the UKGSer massive as to what you should do?

To a man you are given sound advice i.e. don't worry about it. Fill it up with more petrol so it dilutes. It'll be fine. Don't worry blah blah

Then you ignore the advice and do something different :blast

I love this place :D

If you've put it in a jerry can then refill the bike with unleaded and just put a few litres at a time back in the bike every now and then when you need a little top up, adding regular unleaded in between for fill ups obviosuly, until you've used it all ... :comfort

Surely the diesel nozzle wouldn't fit in the unleaded petrol orifice?
