The BMW thing is £1450 but the Garmin StreetPilot is about £500.

That's a hell of a difference.

What are the differences, anyone know?

Extra buttons, so you don't have to use the touch screen.

I bought one whilst in the USA ($1200:D). Having used it for 20k miles or so, I'd say that the extra buttons are pretty well superfluous. Even with my Gerbing heated gloves, which are huge and leave me the dexterity of a mutant with bananas for fingers, I was still able to use the touchscreen successfully. It takes a little practice - you press on the drop-down menu and then 'walk' your fingertip down the screen to highlight your selection - but it works pretty well.

I'd buy a 2610 without a doubt - best GPSR out there for bike/car only application (if you're considering using it for aviation or marine use, look at the 276c). Vastly better re-calc time than the SPIII and much more user-friendly hardware & software. You're also not tied to Garmin's own brand data chip - it uses CF Cards (276c uses Garmin chips IIRC).

Oh, the Nav II does have an extra screen display (sort of Direction Finder compass thingy). Not sure if anyone else uses it, but I've not found it of any value...

Exec Summary - 2610 Good - NavII not worth the extra dosh. Others' experience may vary etc...

parts bloke at CW BMW told me that navigator is petrol resistant & 2610 isn't.

i felt i'd have to wreck 2'narf 2610's before i was out of pocket.

B/S ! (BMW said this about the original Navigator as well)
The Navigator II is no more or less petrol resistant than the SP2610

With mounts you can mix and match; the Garmin motorcycle cradle will connect to all the BMW mounts/bases as they both use the same 4 hole pattern.

I believe that the BMW cradle/button pad will not work with the SP2610 due to it being disabled in firmware

Isn't there a Dutch company that do the equivalent of the BMW buttons that you can put on a std 2610 for about £200?

Just in case you wanted to...................

Touratech?

Street Pilot 2610 remote control £ 147,93

The innovative infrared remote control for your handlebars!

You can carry out many important SP 2610 functions easily and, above all, safely using this durable remote control which is fitted to the handlebars. It features zoom in/zoom out, Enter, Quit and cursor keys (4) enabling you to operate the Street Pilot without you having to take your hands off the handlebars.
The remote control is simply screwed to the handlebars and connected to a 12 V power source. The infrared diode is fitted close to the 2610. Now you can operate your Street Pilot using the functions described above. The remote control can be used in conjunction with any Street Pilot from the 26 series.

Their description from their website. HTH. Or as PanEuropean did velcro the Garmin supplied remote somewhere and they only cost about £30.

They come with the NavII as standard - do they not come with the 2610? I couldn't find anywhere practical to mount the remote on my Adv when I tried Pan's idea out...
