As an old fart (74) with a crap back, and a 29 inside leg, what would your suggestions be for another bike, I own a 2010 1200GS,in all honesty I only ride local, with the occasional 100+ round trip,Cheers Baza
Nothing like a GS, but I have a 2022 Ducati Scrambler 800 and I love it. Light weight (the GS is a nightmare to manoeuvre in the garage, and not great for weaving between traffic jams), smooth and tractable, beautiful handling low seat. No weather protection, but that helps me keep the speed down and I don't have to go out if it's raining. I have added extra mudguards though as the current fashion for minimal mudguards allows muck to be spattered all over the front of the engine and up the back of my helmet. As an old fart (74) with a crap back, and a 29 inside leg, what would your suggestions be for another bike, I own a 2010 1200GS,in all honesty I only ride local, with the occasional 100+ round trip,Cheers Baza![]()
I had a sit on and wheel-about on one of those Guzzis, I thought it was too similar in weight to the GS, when I was looking for something much lighter. Doesn't the transalp have a high seat?moto guzzi https://amcn.com.au/editorial/great-expectations-2019-moto-guzzi-v85tt/ later ones had tubeless tyres
if you can cope with a chain, honda translap but 2025 had a lot of improvements

think i need to get in early , boot size ?For more years than I care to remember I've had big bikes, GTR1400 s GS1200, GS1250, K1300GTEE, ZZR1400 Super Tenere etc etc etc, the list goes on and on........
In June this year I purchased a BMW G310GS Rally, it's tall but light, after a period of adjustment I've grown to really like it even though it does lack some performance
Me, I'm 74 years young this month, I have spinal Stenosis, type 1 diabetes, have recovered from prostate cancer, but also have Hodgkins Lymphoma
Whatever you decide on, I hope it enables you to continue riding because riding a motorcycle is such a good tonic, especially as we get older, it's a fantastic tonic for me....yes really!
GOOD LUCK

Transalp has tubes. Show stopper for most of us…its tiny, with very supple suspension, and feels in my mind, light - also far narrower and gets cruise control - plus very affordable
transalp I think is tall - the seat moves a fair bit - but all these adventure bikes are meant for big people (hence comments like this "the seat is a manageable 850mm") https://amcn.com.au/editorial/2023-honda-xl750-transalp/
lots of changes for 2025 - the 2023 one got quite a kicking - trouble is the journos want excitement and junk, where a human wants what Honda used to give us 25 years back - didn't find a review, and given up with the nags on UK MCN they can go to hell
Why? My old DR650 has tubes as did all my pushbikes growing up. It never stopped me riding them. I rode my mountain bike to Sarajevo back in 97 that had tubes. I never knew we were not supposed to ride very far on bikes with tubes. I’m surprised I have managed to live this long.Transalp has tubes. Show stopper for most of us…
