I've been doing a lot more motorway miles than usual recently and yesterday I noticed my rear tyre is looking squared off. It's a tourance (original) and the central inch and a half is looking flat. The tyre still has 3-4mm tread left. Is there a way of getting the tyre back into shape (apart from riding exclusively on roundabouts) or should I replace it now?

As long as it's still legal and you are happy that there it has not affected the handling adversley then I don't really see a problem TBH.

Seem to remember there was a Darwin awards contender that put their bike on the centre stand, started the engine and put it in gear  then used a belt sander to get the profile back on the tyre :mmmm

Can't recommend it

How about a track day instead?

errr....just ride the thing. A squared off rear will just make the bike feel different, you haven't lost any performance/grip.

Tyre profile is by far the greatest affecting factor of a bike's handling and I don't blame anyone for wanting to get it's profile back.
When my rear starts to square off I take my Dual action sander (DA) with a 40 grit disk and as previously mentioned put it up on the centre stand in 1st gear whilst idling and profile the tyre back to shape.
It's not a 2 minute job though, After all tyres are designed not to wear out too quickly!
