Think it’s about time to change the rubber on my 1200. Currently running Anakee adventures which have been good for both touring, scratching and doing some light trail work. As I do abit of everything and do tend to ride it like I stole it on occasions I’m just wondering if anyone has found something better than what I’m currently running.

Been very happy with several sets of TKC70s for the type of use described.

The phrase, if it is not broken, why fix it comes to mind.

Avon Trailriders
stick shit and blanket spring to mind

Bit like hens teeth atm though

I am wondering if Goodyear will carry on making them
https://www.avontyres.com/en-gb/tyres/trailrider?cartype=motorcycle still lists them but they would have to be made at the Goodyear/Dunlop factory in Montlucon, France.
I want some Spirit ST before my Spain trip so have the same query about these. A friend bought some this year but they were made in the UK before the factory closed in Dec 2023.

They seem to be popular on the Africa Twin forum
Road and dry gravel, forest tracks the CTA3 are excellent. No good on wet tracks, but fine on wet road. I think they are described as 80 (road) 20 (off road) so in my experience they are excellent in all road conditions and fine for gentle off road, anything technical off road and you will need something more off road biased. I an using Michelin Anakee Wild which are described as 50/50. I find them much better off road and can handle wet rocks, ruts etc, but they struggle with very wet or muddy off road. People say they are noisy on road - I haven't experienced that and run 30psi on road and drop to 14/15psi off road. They are OK on road but not something you'd attach tarmac bends on.

I’ve eventually gone with BS TA41s. They seem good on wet n dry tarmac. Turn ins nice and they seem stable when leant over. We’ll see how they go.

I just had TA41's taken off. I found they slid too much in the wet/ damp.
I used them for W. Yorkshire to Aberdeen.
Now got Road 6's on the bike.

Worked fine on Saturday just gone. Roads were horrible and covered in shite, but had no issues at all with the TA41’s

Maybe we just ride slow when it’s wet and slippery, so therefore no issue 👍

I must say I’m quite disappointed with these BS TA41s. Only around 5,000 miles in and the front is very badly stepped it feels floaty in a straight line. Yes they grip well in wet and dry but I’d expect abit less stepping on the front. Maybe I need to look for a more road only bias

Cant remember the last time I managed 5k out of tyres. Not sure expectations of any sort of decent performance at that mileage is realistic.

I rode the R1150GS we have in the family for a week or so while fitted with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR, despite not riding in the wet (August in Italy) I was impressed by these tyres on both tarmac and light off road.
Albeit these were a bit noisy over 80-90MPH.
Anyone tried these for longer than a week?
Mileage was not great my father told me, he then reverted to standard Pirelli Scorpion Trail and these were also pretty fantastic tyres both in the wet in December and on dry hot tarmac in August.
Quite a fan of Pirelli on the GS, but they don't seem quite common in UK, or at least not mentioned a lot on this forum.

Pirelli's German sibling Metzeler seems more popular with UK riders, especially on this forum, which is hardly surprising as they come on the BMWs from the factory

the Scorpions seem to be acquiring a good reputation as they are fitted to many of the Chinese bikes arriving in Europe in bigger numbers each year.

Thanks wessie for some reason I thought Metzler was under the Continental umbrella, but I know I'm wrong. In 1990 there was a failed acquisition of Continental where Pirelli was blocked by German banks and bureaucracy according to Wikipedia!

It's Metzeler and Pirelli that are joined at the hip

Metzeler Tourance currently on my R1200GSA. Decent for all-round driving. No particular vibration or noise. For me a coin-flip between Anakees and Tourance. Unclear on which one provides the best longevity.

I've had a set of Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR's on my 2010 GSA - I get around 6000 miles to the rear & 12000 to the front - really liked them. Currently on Karoo Street - which I like as well, but prefer the STR's - only reason I didn't get a 2nd set was they were taking too long to arrive at my local fitter & he had a set of Streets in store.
