HELP!

I've had to reload the operating system on my laptop due to a hard drive failure - I took the opportunity go back to XP from Vista.

I've tried running the copy of Mapsource that I had 6.13.6 and then running the CN2008 disk I got from GArmin - this arrangement worked before my HDD failure and I had full Mapsource functionality and up to date maps.

Now, when I run the CN2008, it says that I have "successfully updated my GPS" but that errors were noted in updating my computer and as a result I cannot run Mapsource. I've also tried running the cn2008 disk before loading Mapsource. Still the same error. Do I need to go through this in order to load the maps into my PC - my GPS is fine, it shows that I have CN2008 on my unit.

Is my Mapsource (a download) only an update ...... and I need a full copy (though I didn't ever have one so how was I able to operate up to now)? The Garmin download site suggests that the latest version is 6.13.7 but notes on the download site say "WARNING: This software will not work unless you already own a MapSource product" Is my CN2008 disk this 'product' or does that refer to an original version of Mapsource itself?

This morning, I used a System Restore to revert a few days and started it all again (it takes over 2 hours!) - still the same error though. :spitfire :spitfire

.....help.....!

Had a look at the other notes below the warning you mentioed about Windows compatability?

John

Thanks - though I'm using 6.13.7

In any case, I'm fairly sure its downward compatible with XP. It suggests that 6.13.8 system requirements
are.."IBM-compatible PC running Windows 2000 or later operating system" so .7 or .8 should be fine for XP..........:D

The way I read it is that 6.13.7 is Vista compatabile, the rest may or may not have problems.

IIWY I'd try removing all the mapsource and city nav programmes and then reloading the original City Nav disk(s) with unlock codes, and then putting in the latest mapping with it's codes.

which unit do you have and what versions of city nav europe have you got ?

John,
My laptop is now running XP, so should be no probs....I've tried the reload, (did a system restore on the PC) then using the CN2008 update disk I got in March or thereabouts. The only code I'm asked for in the process is the 8 code key on the upgrade disk - I'm not asked for the GPS unit unlock code (19 digits I think) at any stage in the process....:nenau

Its a Garmin Nuvi, which doesnt ship with a copy of Mapsource, so I'm using a version *6.13.6) that I obtained via a download.. CN2008 ("V-10") .

As I said, all this worked before I had my laptop problem..........is there some chance that the CN2008 disk is protected in some way from being loaded onto a 'second' machine, but that the error I'm being given is in some way deliberately vague/generic???

Keep the suggestions coming :thumb

the dvd is only usable on 1 unit so you can't use an additional unlock like you could on previous versions.
