Anyone know if the headlight dip beam is different for L/H and R/H bikes?
I'm thinking of buying a 1200GS LC in Germany, using there for several months and then shipping it home to Cyprus, but was wondering I'd have a problem with headlight.
Thanks

Why not?
Why do you think people used to put little bits of black tape on the dip light when they went to Europe, as the in the UK, dip is to the left.
I don't want to buy a bike with the dip to the right, and then have to buy a new headlight unit as it wouldn't comply with regs.
I know if I sold or registered my 2009 GS in Germany the headlight assy would need to be changed.

I know you can get lh and rh dip for the "older" 1200GS. I had a look on a couple of secondhand web sites today.

I don't believe it would be a problem, as think it is a universal dip. Not a definitive answer but believe no difference.

I think the confusion comes from your wording of the question. Bikes aren't left or right hand drive as cars are.

The beam will dip left or right depending on the country of original point of sale. My R1150GSA was built for the German market and imported from there to the UK. The beam pattern was on the wrong side but the headlamp rotates to compensate for this. Had I wished I could have purchased a UK spec dipped beam unit. I would think that this is still the case especially as the new housing doesn't rotate.

Some bikes dip left and right, however I think the R1200GS LC just dips vertically up/down so can be used anywhere without the need for headlight changing or tape.

Shirley someone will just park in front of a wall and check the beam pattern for you ... I had no idea Cyprus drove on the left too

Yes very good friends of the U.K therefore, drive on the correct side of the road.

Dip pattern on the LC bikes is symmetric, no lhd/rhd adjustment required (or possible).

Thanks jtb.

Yes we drive on the left.........occasionally:augie, ex Brit colony.

I was in Mauritius a couple of weeks ago, and supprised to find that they drive on the left as well.

Just had this reply from BMW UK

"Thanks for your email about your BMW R1200 GS headlight.

I can confirm that your bike is fitted with a left dipping headlight.

Thanks again for getting in touch and please let me know if there's anything else I can help you with.

Kind regards"

Page 72 in the manual. Symmetric. No adjustment required. Don't know if BMW UK have read their own manual!

there only seems to be two headlights listed in the parts list - halogen and LED. no dip variants.

Whilst on the subject of headlight throw, in the manual with LED headlights the neutral position is A but the beam seems to be lower in this position than it does in position B for heavy loads! anyone else noticed this?

Yes. I assumed it was a misprint in the manual and reported it to BMW but heard nothing back. I just use it the opposite way and all is good.
